2yr old low temp.

Hi all,

My 2yr old was fine all day, apart from a few sneezes/runny nose.
He started crying around 9pm when he was in bed so my other half went to check on him, and then he went back to sleep but woke up again around 11pm crying so I thought I'd take his temperature and it was 34.7.
His room was 21 degrees, he was sleeping in long sleeved top and bottoms.

We've given him some food and water which he took readily, and his temp is now 35.8. He is with me under and extra blanket but he doesn't want to sleep, and keeps getting a bit clammy.

Breathing is normal, HR 108.

Could it just be something viral or should I call 111? When I ask him if he is ok he says "Yes mummy" (but that could be because he's watching Ben and Holly at 12:44am!!!)

I should also probably mention that I've used two different thermometers and got low readings from both, have taken from the ear and armpit.

Hi op,

If you take your temperature do you get a more “normal” reading. If so, I’d call 111 for advice

@Itsatoughgig Hi, thanks for replying!
Yes, when I take mine I get a normal reading.

I've just done his again and it's now 35.7.

Thanks all.
His temperature is coming up, it's always the way! I'm pleased.
The clinician called me back and she's going to get the Dr to call me to see what they think x

@alexdgr8 urine output seems normal for him, and he's drinking lots of water.

@alexdgr8 I was freaking out about sepsis too, as he does have a tiny bite mark on his finger from when his little sister bit him the other day. It looks ok to me though.

@Elmo311 - how is your son today?

Report
Elmo311 · 22/09/2020 09:30

@RemyHadley He's full of cold but otherwise fine! Kept me up all night, advised just to monitor him by Dr.
Temp is staying at 36.0.

Fingers crossed it was just a one off, I feel like I'm hungover!

Ah I’m glad he’s doing ok! Do you have somebody who can watch him today while you get some rest?

Report
Elmo311 · 22/09/2020 10:04

@RemyHadley Unfortunately not, so him and his sister have had some TV this morning, and I've got Red Bull to hand.

Thank you for caring x

Ah some tv time will be good for him when he’s sick anyway! See if you can doze on the sofa by them :)
