Meeting friends in the park - worried about sun

I'm meeting a couple of friends in a park this afternoon for a picnic. The park has barely any shade, so if someone else is already sitting under the trees then we'll be in full sun.

I'll be with my DS (five months) who will be in the pram and am a bit unsure what to do. Would you go to the park today or cancel?

It's 29C here today and sunny...

You're pram should have a shade roof thing? I've completely forgotten the name for it! Ha

Take water, suncream, and leave if it gets too much. I would be a shame to cancel.

Assume you can't suggest a better park?

Yes DS will be in shade if I put the pram hood up and turn the pram away from the sun.

Sadly that's the only park that is convenient for the 3 of us!

I did stay inside for most of the last heatwave, but that one was more like 36C, whereas this one is only 29C...

Take an umbrella (just a normal one) and you can put in up, lie it on the ground and put baby in the shade of it on a picnic blanket!

I would go but obviously if your baby gets too warm either you can all have a walk, go else where or go home. It's hard to predict. All you can do is take an umbrella, lots of cream and ensure your baby is having lots of fluids.

Look at the UV forecast! UV levels are lower than in the summer. Is higher midday but the forecast I checked it was still pretty moderate. So no need to worry quite so much!

Babies here (Australia) manage to survive when it is 35-43 degrees for several weeks (months even) in summer and much, much stronger UV. Just put on sunscreen, hat and long sleeved light cotton clothes on baby plus pram sunshade.

I used to just make sure my son had sun cream and a hat on, cool clothes, and I used the hood of the pram and a parasol.

I know you have already been to the park but I just wanted to recommend a snooze shade. I got mine second hand for £5 and I don’t know what I’d do without it.
