Shamelessly posting for traffic.

I have wondered all day whether to post this or not but ultimately it might help save one person from viewing something they shouldn't.

For every single one of you who allows your young child to use TikTok please be aware that there is a video circulating today of a man committing suicide. Yes, he did it in a live stream and the video is all over the place now. TikTok is that one social that you cannot prevent you children from seeing ANY content. If you allow them the app you allow them the content.

Get your child off the app now unless you wanted them traumatised for life after watching someone shoot their brains quite literally out.

How awful. I'm glad my kids are adult now. Apparently there's a Benadryl challenge, overdosing and filming yourself hallucinating. A girl has died.

That said, I think we've little chance of totally controlling what our children see. We need to work really hard on helping them establish healthy habits around tech, and being resilient.

Tbh, all children should be supervised no matter what platform they are on when they are online

How awful. The problem is even if your child doesn’t have tic toc, if they are walking home from school with others, someone probably does and goodness knows what they are going to see. It’s absolutely frightening

This. There's not really an excuse for it with all of the parental controls now. Block access to any app you don't want them on.

Removed? Are you kidding?

Nice downplay and effort at making me look stupid for trying to warn people. You are the very reason I didn't post until now.

This video is all over the internet. It's never going to be 'removed' Hmm

My niece (11) is allowed unrestricted access to tik tok. Her parents are also technophobes. It really does worry me what she will get up to on it.

Ds2 doesn't have tic toc, but he receives videos on WhatsApp that his friends share from tic toc. Either supervision or teaching responsible use is the answer.

My young adult warned me to avoid tiktok for a few days as they read about it on twitter. I only go on it for recipe inspiration

Yes. And children should not be on TikTok. How many threads in the past few weeks alone about allowing bloody 8/9/10 years olds to use it Angry

You better not let them near any web browser either because this stuff is on the web as well

It’s not a new video. It’s a man who committed suicide live on Facebook live. The video is everywhere including being hosted on private sites where you can just copy the link and text it to everyone. This video isn’t going away. Young children have no need to be on tiktok WhatsApp or Facebook at all anyway.

Mine aren’t old enough for it but I thought that a parent could put a child’s account in restricted mode to filter content?

I had a conversation with a friend about it and I’m sure she told me that what she did, along with controlling the amount of time her son spent on the app.

Mines not on any SM. Just not letting him into that world tbh for as long as possible.

Quite . However I am specifically addressing the parents on here who allow their children access to TikTok because they think it's all cute kittens and dancing. You would have to search for this video using a browser. On TikTok it's literally there in front of the child. No searching, No cute kitten.

I didn't post for a debate about internet usage.

Omg! How horriffic.
My 11 year old dd is desperate to get tik tok. I am a relitively young mum and quite relaxed but it is something i just will not budge on.
"All her friend ls have it" and i am "the worst." But that is fine by me as i am happy to be the worst as long as i am "the worst" with a child who doesnt have tik tok 😀
Horrid app!

Yes it's not a new video. It's been around a few days. It wasn't all over tik tok until today thoughts. Yes it's available in various places. My post is specifically about TikTok and children right now . As in this moment.

You cannot restrict what they see on TikTok, hence my post.

I completely agree. I use TikTok as an adult and there are some great, clever, funny videos on there but there are also a lot that pop up that are bizarre or upsetting. I have reported a man for obviously pleasuring himself (but the video only of his face) and it wasn’t classed as breaking guidelines.

If you ARE going to let your children on social media, Facebook is a “safer” platform as you can lock it down and limit it to only their friends. It obviously still has its risks.

But TikTok is literally open scrolling with randomly selected videos - you just do not know what you’re going to be shown, and I don’t feel like they are quick or particularly vigilant about removing and monitoring content.

Get them off it.

Exactly. Many many people have reported these videos and TikTok have found them not to violate guidelines Angry
