(3 Posts)2 week old has really bad GERD, nothing is helping. At what age will it start to improve?
It depends on what is causing the GERD, and how it is being treated. It is often caused by a cows milk protein intolerance. If this is the case, it is not likely to improve if your baby is having exposure to cow's milk protein. If your baby is given medication and it's not working, the medication needs to be reviewed by a doctor. There are different medications for GERD, some more effective than others. Some babies do better if their milk is thickened.
Many babies improve as they are are able to be more upright and others improve when they are weaned.
My 19 month old had really bad reflux when he was little (started from around 2 weeks). I was breastfeeding so cut out dairy. At the time I thought it helped minimise the vomit. I held him upright for 20 mins after feeds. He was still vomitting though so a paediatrician prescribed medicine. The symptoms all vanished at about 7months when he started pulling to stand.
I appreciate how hard it is, especially in the early days but it does get better
