Breastfeeding 4 times in a row

My DS is 8 days old. I am exclusively breastfeeding him. It's all been going fine but yesterday and today he shows that he's hungry, eats for about 10ish minutes and comes off like he's had enough and falls asleep. I then move him to burp and he's hungry again so I feed him again, and he repeats this 4 times?! Is this normal?! Each feed is taking me over an hour 😂

Yes it's normal at this stage for babies to feed as much as 12 times in 24 hours. It would be worth checking to see if the latch is as good as it can be for effective milk transfer. Look for NHS breastfeeding resources for images of well attached babies. Look out for six heavy wet nappies in 24 hours. If you are getting less than this seek professional advice. Feeds naturally become shorter over time as your baby gets more efficient at feeding.

Sorry that's horribly written but it's usually normal.

Has baby been reweighed yet and regained birthweight? Is he having wet and dirty nappies?

Are you sore?

My little girl is 10 days old and she did similar on days 8 and 9. She would feed for 5 to 10 mins, burp, sleep, wake up 10 mins later and want more feeding. This went on for about 5 hours each day. Health visitor said it's common around this time as babies have a growth spurt between weeks 1 and 2. They are doing this to encourage more milk to be produced to allow them enough for the growth spurt.

Oh yeh totally normal. They will feed for hours and hours in a few weeks as well and you'll be told they are using you as a dummy, not getting enough etc. It's all completely normal. Google cluster feeding, that should help reassure you a little.

It can be really tough in those first few weeks but if it works for you, it becomes so much easier after a while.
