Out of date milk - HELP?!

I feel awful. Our little boy is one week old. We feed him little bottles of Aptamil ready made formula when out and about but Aldi Mamia when home. We had to come to A and E today due to him bringing up yellow sick this morning and GP advising us as he is still so little. Doctor said as it was only once, he isn't concerned and gave us advice regarding winding etc.

Anyway, whilst at A and E, I accidentally gave him a few gulps of an Aptamil bottle that had 06/07/20 on. I didn't realise until I noticed it had a bit of sediment in the bottom. I think it was from a pack a friend gave us that I threw away but obviously one got mixed in with our new bottles! I immediately told the Doctor and he said it was fine and to discard it. But what if I've made him poorly?! 😭 I'm a FTM and really struggling with all of this worrying.

Is it best before or use by?
With best before quality suffers but its not dangerous to use.
I doubt your baby would get ill from a few gulps of it

The A&E Doctor told you it was fine. It will be fine.

Thank you. It was use by, not best before. The Doctor didn't seem to get what i was saying and kept asking how often I give him it. I had to stop him twice and say, "I mean this bottle I here, I just gave him some and it has a use by of the 06/07".

And if it was off it would likely be lumpy and smell even worse than normal

I’m guessing the Dr did get it and was just trying to get at whether you had been feeding out of date product for an extended period or not. Most parents of young babies are very panicky. Most doctors are not. Don’t take the lack of concern for not understanding. There’s no issue with the out of date bottle, and you have not poisoned your baby.

I used to feed my son ready made formula until he decided he didnt like it anymore. Once I opened a bottle that was off and I knew about it straight away. It was disgusting - it had all curdled at the bottom, foamy at the top and the smell was unreal.

I think its ok if its just a few gulps and it didnt look visibly off.

You would have known immediately if anything was wrong with the milk, just as you know if cows milk in your fridge has gone sour. It was fine.

Your mental health is of more concern. You seem very anxious. Are you struggling?

Baby will be ok op. It's hard becoming a new parent and being in charge of someone so tiny. I don't think it will have gone instantly off, it's not that far past the use by. You're a good mum, you've taken him into the doctor and sought medical advice. It will get easier.
