Dummies!

I was looking online to order a couple of new dummies for my 1 year old and I saw that most dummies seem to only go up to 18 months. Does this mean I should be weaning her soon? This seems sooner than I anticipated (she loves them, they feel essential at the moment, especially for naps and sleep) but I want to do the right thing. Baby has also had her last breastfeed of all time tonight, so don't want to rock the boat too much anytime soon! All advice appreciated, thankyou.

According to the lullaby trust, you should remove dummies between 6 and 12 months as otherwise they can increase risks of ear infections??

Tbh I'd be more worried about damaging her teeth and delaying her speech. Give her a few weeks to get used to no boob, then ditch the dummies too, I'd say.

NHS advice is also to remove dummies between 6-12 months.

My ds had his to nearly 2 and dd is 18 months and has one still. Both only had them for naps/bed from when they could crawl.

Thanks everyone. I think we will start giving them up soon. She's just turned 1 and starting nursery in September so I could aim for them to be gone by then. They've bought me so much peace, I honestly don't know what I'd have done without them for this past year!

It's much easier to wean them off the dummy when they're younger, so I'd just get on with it now. You could also move from bottles to cups at the same time.
