Routine

I could really do with some help on getting my 2 boys into a routine. They are 2&4. Usually they wake up between 7.30-8.30 but they don't go to bed until between 10-12 most nights and I'm permanently exhausted. I've tried putting them to bed earlier but even if they are put in bed for 7 they just mess about and make excuses to be let out of the stair gate and to not go to bed. Can anyone advise the best way to get them into a solid routine especially before my youngest starts school in September

Do they share a room? Have naps? Do you have another adult at home?

I would start by getting them up at 7 everyday.

My three year old wakes up c.6/6.30, dropping the naps and in bed at 7. Do they still nap?
Are they physically active enough in the day, are they able to get fresh air and keep busy?

They share a room although we have enough bedrooms to split them up if it would help. My husband is here but he starts work at 6am so is always out of the house before we are up. My 2yr old usually naps around 3-4pm which is awful but it gets to the point he falls asleep standing up so I can't keep him awake

They are active every day, we usually go for a walk for between 90mins -2hours and they both walk all the way. I think earlier starts might help

Split them up!
Mine feed off each other's energy, and would never settle if they were put to bed together.

Do you think you could get your 2 year old to nap at 1 or 2pm instead? And awake by 3?

Yeh wake them up early, but for those days maybe don’t do the big walk, have some down time in the day for the youngest, not a nap but some quiet time with say the tv/ tablet. Then try bed time c 7.30. If your youngest does need to nap, do it straight after lunch for max 1hr

Definitely get up earlier. Own room and each parent do bedtime stories and bedtime for one child. If you are getting up earlier the toddler can nap earlier.

Even if he naps at say 12 if we've had a busy morning he still doesn't go to bed till 10-11 it just seems to never end. Will definitely look to split them up
