Holy shit tell me it’s just a phase!

Toddler has spent the last few days being EXHAUSTING.

He’s taking an hour or more to put to bed, and another 30 minutes or so at naptime. If you say no to him or ask him to do anything he doesn’t want to do he SCREAMS and shouts ‘no sad!’ (Literally hundreds of times per day). He goes from having more energy than I know what to do with, to being tired and whiny over and over again. He’s barely eating. To top it all off he is asking ‘what’s this?’ bloody constantly about everything which is in equal parts adorable and infuriating because he bloody well knows what everything is! 🤬😂

He’s 21 months. At this rate I won’t survive until his second birthday 😂😂😂

I feel your pain! My longed for child is nearly 2.5 but sometimes I am just like get off me and leave me alone for 5 minutes!

I’ve been struggling with naps and I think he needs to drop the daytime nap because otherwise he is up for ages and doesn’t sleep until 9-10pm. Then wakes up at 7.30am.
But then he can’t stay awake and is too tired and will be falling asleep by 1pm. Then uses that time to catch up on sleep!

Then he doesn’t eat when tired. He doesn’t eat until at least an hour after waking up.

Oh and he’s talking. A lot. And won’t stop.

I’m sure at some point it’ll get easier!!

If it's taking 30 minutes to get him down for a nap I would consider dropping them. He's at the right age to drop daytime naps, he would burn off more energy in the daytime and hopefully go to bed easier if he's tired because he didn't sleep in the day.

I’ve wondered about dropping naps @Housewife71 but he seems so tired all the time! He’s so emotional!

When my toddler was like this and I dropped her nap she ended up getting more sleep than before.

I'm so with you OP...
My son is simialr age, 22 months, and the last 2 days... Omg Where's my cute sweet little boy done?!
He's such hard work.
Tantrums have really started.
If you try and tell him no, or divert him from where he wants to go, he screams blue murder and throws himself on the floor.
Hes so emotional too, if a toy gets in his way, he gets so cross and tearful, throwing the toys around.
The other day, made a sandwich, he was sat on the stool, it was still hot so asked him to wait, in a minute.. He swiped the plate off the side, plate smashed. Sandwich on the floor. Screaming started.

He's also a mare with sleep.
He tends to get 1.5 hours nap, but then won't settle at bedtime. He's in bed 8-9.30/10 before he falls asleep, not upset, just talking and kicking the cot.
The days he doesn't nap, he goes to bed so nicely, and sleeps through 8-8, but he does struggle without a nap, especially the next day if he's missed a nap, he's so tired in the day.

I so hope it's a phase.. Another one on the way and I can't imagine dealing with this as well as a Newborn!!

@Ducky1900 I’m due another in the autumn too... dreading it if he stays like this! He’s at nursery today and I’m hoping they’ll talk some sense into him!

I can only say, it gets worse. At about 27 months I thought the terrible twos was over and said that wasnt bad. Little did I know it had only just begun!! 😂
