Babies and warm weather

Stupid question really.. but I'm just such a worrier, with the weather been very warm is it okay to go outside with a 7 week old. Obviously you would just need to keep them out of direct sunlight and minimal clothing? Also keep them dehydrated. My girl is is bottle fed and online is says to give them cooked boiled water but obviously we can't do that whilst we are out ?

She will be fine when out and about if you keep her out of the sun, appropriately dressed for the weather etc. My DD was born during the August heatwave last year and we took her out without any issues.

I’m not sure about the cooled water though, I thought you weren’t meant to give babies water until 6 months and only then with meals. Mine was breastfed so I don’t know if the advice is different for bottle fed babies but I’d check with your health visitor

I’m sure you could take her out, but I’m staying at home for the next few days - it’s just so hot and much less stressful keeping baby inside in our cool lounge.

You can go out because babies live in much hotter countries..i personally wouldnt and if i have to it would be before 11am f9r a stroll. I would keep them in the shade, nappy and vest only. I would also keep the outing short 30 minutes. Cars, buses get so hot. I would feed before leaving rather than cool water. Baby is too young for water.

Take her out. You could put her in just a vest and nappy, or a single layer sundress. Make sure she's got a good up on her pram, but don't cover the opening with Muslim or blankets. Keep her in the shade. You can give them cooled bottled water - full a bottle with it and you're good to go out - but at that age she's probably feeding all the time anyway so milk will be going in constantly. Feel the back of her neck - if it's hot, she's hot.

Its pretty hot where we live for half of the year. My baby is the same age and we have been out and about as have needed to for various things.

I just try and feed him more often when out as its hot, keep him in the shade mainly, and try to keep it to a shorter trip. We mainly go out in the day for needed appointments, food, and similar which are only available daytime here. Then go for an actual leisurely walk with him in the pram in the evening .

DD1 was born in a sweltering July, and spent the first two months of her life in a nappy and vest. We also had very light cotton "rompers" from Italian relatives which were actually better than tight fitted vests.

She also spent most of the time outdoors, under a pergola and a tree, which was much better than in the hot house we lived in at the time. Early morning walks, and late evening walks, were perfect.

She was bottle fed, but I can't ever remember giving water at all......
