How much does your toddler sleep in total?

Hello all,

This is my first post and just asking out of curiosity really. How much does your toddler sleep?

My DD is coming up 20 months. She's an absolute delight and full of energy. She doesn't seem to sleep much for a child of her age and never has, even as a very young baby. She sleeps for max 10 hours overnight and has a nap of about 1.5 hours each day. She seems perfectly happy on this much sleep. Not cranky, no signs of sleep deprivation. I once asked a doctor about how much she sleeps and was told it's fine, she just doesn't need that much.

It's not a problem, although a bit more quiet time / bit of a lie in wouldn't go amiss sometimes. She generally sleeps through the night these days so I'm not sleep deprived either. I think I'm just curious really, is anyone else's baby like this? If so did they ever start needing more sleep?

I'd say that's a normal amount of sleep. Kids don't really sleep 7pm-7am.

My youngest dropped his nap about that age, but I'd say he was still going to bed about 7 and waking up about 5/6 am

My 24 month old is quite similar! 11 or 12 hours at night and about an hour's nap in the day, but sometimes she skips the nap or has a shorter one.

My DD (2.5) has just dropped her nap and mostly sleeps 12 hours overnight. Give or take half an hour either way. When she napped she’d probably sleep 10 hours at night and 1.5 in the day

My 22 month old son has 45 minuets/1 hour nap and around 11 hours at night usually sleeping from 7.30 to 6.30. He used to sleep 12 hours at night but it's less now.

Sounds about right OP- at that age sometimes by LO would nap for 1.5hr sometimes 3hrs. I think anything between 11-14hrs in a 24hr period is fine.

Mine stopped napping at 20 months and I think was having 11ish hours a night. She's nearly 5 and still doesnt need a huge amount of sleep.

My son is nearly 20 months and sleeps exactly the same as yours. Sadly lie ins and toddlers don't really go hand in hand!

My 2 yr 8 month sleeps 7-7 but doesn't nap and hasn't for a while now. So about 12 hours sometimes 12.5

20 month of DS
No daytime nap 50% of the time, 1.5hr nap the other 50%.
Sleeps 11 hours at night but wakes 3 times so is very broken.

Yours sounds normal

As for the lie in, you don't get those with kids, you must've missed the memo.

my daughter is the same age and she generally sleeps 8pm-8am and then has an hour long nap at about 2pm.

My older two both dropped their nap before 20 months but slept 7-7 at night.
Current 17 month old sleeps around 10.5 hours at night with an hour nap.

my 23 month old has pretty much dropped her naps, she might fall asleep if we go out in the car for half hour or so. then she goes to bed at 7.30/8PM and wakes usually about 5.30ish. I bring her into my bed in the mornings, sometimes she goes back to sleep, sometimes she doesnt

26 month old sleeps 8.30-6.30 at night (so 10 hours) plus a 1-1.5hr nap. So 11-11.5hrs per day.

We used to try to put him to bed at 7 but he’d be up at 5 so scrapped that!

My 21 month old sleeps approx 11 hours overnight and 1.5-2 hours in the day (slightly less at nursery for whatever reason). No idea how this has happened, he always used to be an appalling sleeper.

Thank you so much for all the replies. It's really nice to hear that actually my DD's sleep doesn't sound that unusual at all. She seems perfectly fine on the sleep she gets but according to info on the NHS website she needs about 2.5 hrs more per day than she's getting, so it's hard not to question yourself sometimes!

My DD is 19 months and sleeps 11 hours at night and 2 hours for a nap. Until recently she used to nap for at least 3.5 hours which was great as I’m WFH and it’s the only time I can really get anything done! As soon as I booked my calendar up a month in advance around her nap time she dropped it by an hour and a half Confused

DS 15 months sleeps 7.30 till 6.00 (wakes once for a drink usually around 2am.

Naps usually 2 hours through the day. Around 90 min and 30 min however the 30 min he sometimes fights against which then means bedtime moves to 7pm
