When to transition to toddler bed?

When did you guys transition your toddlers from a cot to a toddler bed? I have a 18 month old I know that's too soon but I'm just curious, how was it going from cot to toddler bed?

Ds was just over 2, we'd bought a single bed (low to ground) for him rather than change the cot bed into toddler bed as dc2 would need the cot. I decided to get bed early incase I had c section with dd as dh works early mornings and I wouldn't of been able to get dc1 in/out of cot.

One nap time he climbed into the bed and made it quite clear he was napping there. The next day I put him down to nap in the bed, that night he decided he wasn't going in the cot anymore. Thankfully he didn't get out of the bed in the mornings on his but use to shout at me when he woke for another 6 months (I did put a child gate up at his door though incase)

Dd (18 months) is now in the same room as ds and she will be in the cot until she learns to climb out because the bedtime shenanigans will be horrendous when she is free range.

I was wondering about this, DS will be 18 months when DD arrives, going to have her in our room for about 6 months so he will be 2. We have a cot bed for him but will probably make sense to buy a small bed and give DD the cot bed

My DS is still in his cot at 2years 4 months. He has never attempted to climb out of it as still sleeps in gro bags. I figure we will keep him in there until closer to 3 tbh. He’s only just started to go down to sleep on his own of a night time so I don’t see the point in changing something that isn’t broken. Obviously depends on your situation though as to whether it is needed sooner rather than later.

DS still in cot at two and a half cos he doesn't try to hard to get out. Like PP he only recently started sleeping so I don't want to mess with it yet.
DD may move into the cot in two months so he'll go into a bed then.

I'm not in any rush to get him into a toddler bed I'm just curious, he has only just started sleeping through the night, I have a 5 month old too who will be going into his own cot in a couple of weeks, but it's a mini cot and I can't lower the mattress so I guess it would be handy to get him in the bigger cot and get the eldest a toddler bed but probably not for a few good months yet

We put DS in his cot bed 2 weeks ago. He'll be 2.5 next week. Absolutely no issues. We trialled him with a duvet in his cot first so he was used to it (he was in a gro bag before then) and then we let him pick his own duvet covers (Thomas and Toy Story) and he absolutely loves it.

I'll be honest, my 2 1/2 year old has only just gone into a single bed in his own room. However he has been sleeping in a large deep sided cot in his own room since he was tiny (after Moses basket) and has been sleeping through the night since he was 8 months old so we were reluctant to change earlier as it was working so well for us. I'm glad we waited until he was a bit older as he transitioned seamlessly with no problem and we bypassed having a toddler bed and straight into a single bed. We did try him straight into a single bed just before he was two but we only lasted one night when it was clear he was not at all ready and he was getting so distressed! So we held off and tried again when he was a bit older and he was so ready, it went perfectly and now he's a happy boy in his big boy bed!

Ds was 12 months, he climbed out of his cot so had no choice.
Dt were 18 months because they slept together and were climbing on each other I'd thought about separate cots but thought it'd be so short a time they'd just get used to sleeping separately and then they'd move into beds. So bit the bullet and put them in separate beds (although kept finding them in bed together for first couple of years.
Each child and circumstance is different. As long as their safe and happy it's upto you.

We moved our DS into a cotbed at 21 months when potty training him as he needed access to his potty through the night.

He was fine, it was only really low, we put some cushions on the floor as he wiggles so much, he fell out a few times but just got himself back in.
He loves his bed and sleeps alot better in it than he did his cot.

Did it at 20 months. Couple of nights of returning to bed 100 times but fine after that! We did then go through a phase of him joining our bed at 3am which is accepted through tiredness. But that slowly got earlier and earlier. So 2 nights of returning each time and that has stopped too!

About 18 months with DD as she started climbing out of the cot. I hadn't planned to do it for a good while longer but I was too worried about her getting hurt. It was a really high sided cot and a long way to fall. The older DCs were well past 2 when they moved to a bed.
We moved her straight to a full single as we had a spare instead of buying a new toddler bed.
I do have a video monitor now though as although usually she's really good at going to bed and reliably sleeps through she can get out and mess about sometimes. She's 22 months now.
