7.5months teething help needed. Is this normal?

Hi there,

I’m after some advice and wondered if anyone could help. I’m a first time mum and with that comes a whole wave of first time worries and experiences. This new one- teething. My DS has been teething now for about 10days and we still aren’t seeing teeth. We believe it’s teething as the drool is unbelievable. It is absolutely drenching his front within 10min or so and he’s in pain and is unable to sleep well at night, which is proving to be somewhat tiresome on us. Is this a normal amount of time to wait for teeth (it would be his upper teeth cutting through)? Has anyone else had similar experiences? Oh and we haven’t seen the teeth cut through yet, although think maybe his gum is appearing a little whiter as it thins from the pressure of the teeth.

Sorry but it took months for my los teeth to finally erupt! It's all the movement beneath the gums that's bothering them. Once they finally cut through it's much better!

Ibuprofen and cooled teething toys helped. What age is your lo?

Thanks for your response! He is seven and a half months old. Oh gosh- these poor babies. The pain must be awful that they’re going through.

Baby Calpol is good for teething too! Good luck x

Definitely normal. Calpol is the way to go

My daughter started showing signs of teething from about 4 months. Rosy cheeks, dribbling, gnawing on everything in sight, but didn't cut her first tooth until gone 10 months, and then 2 cut within a week.

Calpol, neurofen, teeth gel, toys you can put in the freezer, teething necklaces all help.

Yes, it sounds pretty normal. It can take a few weeks.

The best thing I found is anbesol liquid, it’s instant relief for them! My DD was teething on and off for months before the tooth finally erupted at 10 months!

Thought I’d update this post. He was not teething. It was going on for such a prolonged time- almost a month of unsettled behaviour that we ended up taking him to hospital. It transpired that he had something called Caffey’s disease, which is unbelievably rare. I thought I would mention incase anyone else is in a similar boat. A few symptoms of caffey’s disease:

• excessive drooling
  
• pain throughout day and night on and off
  
• unable to eat well due to pain in jaw
  
• swollen face (moves from one side of cheek to the other and resembles mumps, but the swelling will switch sides).
  
• MRI showed the cause of these symptoms
  

Luckily for us and our beautiful boy, this doesn’t have any long term effects and after a gruelling 6months of this he has gotten past it.

Thanks though to anyone who did help and I hope perhaps this information can help another parent who perhaps finds themselves in this incredibly rare position.
