9 month old only having one nap a day

Our 9 month old is now only taking one nap per day. Is this okay?

She wakes up about 7am. Naps about 1pm for 1-2hrs and then goes to sleep around 7pm. (Meals are 9am, 12pm, 5pm).

I've looked everywhere and they say the average for this to happen is 15 months but can be from 1 year.

Yep, mine did that, she also gave up naps all together at 18mths (though I still tried for another 6mths after).

The biggest problem with babies, I've found, is that none of them ever bother to read the books or the internet - the little buggers don't have a clue about the rules or guidelines! It's a nightmare.

General ticklist to live by - is your baby...
-growing well? Weight and height holding steady in the red book?
-eating happily? Solids, milk, whatever
-sleeping decently at night? (That one's more for you, but weirdly waking lots at night can be a sign of overtiredness)
-wetting and dirtying a decent number of nappies?
-seeming relatively cheerful and happy in themself?

Some babies need less sleep than others. It may well be that once she's on the mood she sleeps more... but maybe not.

Try not to worry about the milestones etc, just enjoy that one nap a day, try to resist the urge to do chores and give yourself a break instead!

They are all different. My 9 month old still takes 2 naps but I suspect it won't be long before she drops one. She is starting to show signs of needing less daytime sleep.

I guess if her nighttime sleep is good and she doesn't show signs of being overtired in the evenings then she must be ok?

My daughter is 9 months. She sleeps around 11 or 12 hours a night and about 2 hours during the day (either 1 two hour nap or two smaller ones). I think it's normal. Exhausting for us when there's only one nap though isn't it 😋

Ah thanks everyone.

Yes she is on the 99.6 centile and generally a happy baby.

I'll just go with what she wants and stop listening to HV etc. Not that I really did listen as the ones in this area are awful and well known for it Hmm

@Girlmum91 not so bad whilst her dad is off work but once he goes back I'll have to keep her entertained myself. Hopefully we will be able to socialise with other people when it comes to that!!

My youngest was the same, I only ever remember him having 2 naps a day and by 9 months it was definitely down to just 1 as he used to sleep for 2-3 hours on the first nap so no need for a second. Followed his lead and never saw a problem with it

My oldest never napped for longer than 20 minutes maximum... they are all different, and HV tend to want them to be all the same

My 10 month old has been the same for the past few weeks! I try everything to get him to have the second nap and he refuses. Even walking in the pram doesn't work.

He does like to have a bit of downtime instead of the nap though, so rather than running around crazy he will cuddle up with me on the sofa and maybe watch some tv. Then half an hour later he's back to being crazy.

Good to hear all of these comments, thank you. Yes, she does go quiet for the last couple of hours so we just chill

I'd say if she seems happy and is growing as he should, then it sounds like she's getting all the sleep he needs.

My little one is similar. He's 8 months, and usually has two 1 hour naps. Sometimes he just does a couple of quick power naps, so gets even less. But he seems happy and has plenty of energy so I assume it's enough for him.

One of mine only ever had 10 mins in the morning and 10 mins in the afternoon and that was as a tiny baby. By 9 months she had abandoned daytime naps altogether much to the annoyance of the nursery! She does now sleep in the day, but she is a teenager!
