When do babies 'know' each other

Just that really.

LO is almost 10 months and has just started nursery. She also sees other babies at baby groups, and babies of friends every couple of weeks.

Just curious as to when she will start to recognise and remember them? As in, if she meets one of the babies from nursery in a different setting would she think 'I know you'!

When we realised DS could point to a particular person when asked (which was probably about 11 months, I think?) the three people he could reliably point to were mummy, daddy and his 18 month old cousin who he saw every couple of weeks. Other family members he got confused and mixed up until he was quite a few months older. So he certainly 'knew' him then!

Yeah I'd say around 1?
DS is 20months now, & if I say his friends names he looks for them & nods if I ask if he want to go see them.

DS had a little buddy at swimming lessons that he absolutely loved at 7m. Whether he recognised him or not, I don't know, but they adored each other!

He has made a little pal at nursery now (this started at 14m). They are the same age and happen to have the same name, and they seem to hang out together all the time.

DD has a friend who she saw weekly from 6 months or so - by 11 months she was saying a baby version of his name and would absolutely know who he was. Still firm friends at 2.5!
