2 year review

Afternoon all!
Little one has his 2 year review tomorrow and I’m stressing. I’ve just found the questionnaire online and completed it and he’s very low down on all sections, scored zero for communication.
Anyone that recognizes my name will know that we are waiting for a salt and also hearing test.
I’m really worrying now about tomorrow as I know the result but not sure what will happen next?
I’ve already spoken to hv months ago about autism but she couldn’t make her mind up what to do (she was hopeless) so told me to wait till his review. That same hv was meant to arrange the hearing test but when I called a few weeks later she hadn’t put the referral in so that’s obviously set us back a few weeks. The wait is 8 months for hearing test. I’m still noticing autistic traits which I’m not worried about, if he’s autistic then I just want to do all I can to provide the best for him.
Please does anyone know what happens regarding low scores across all areas of the 24 month review. Thank you!

I should also say that I’ve done the m-chat questionnaire and he’s come out as medium risk.

Is your review tomorrow with a different health visitor? Would help if you get one that knows what they're doing with referring for extra support

Thank you! It’s with a community nurse tomorrow. I’ve spoken to her and said about how the last hv had mentioned a referral to get him on the autism pathway. This nurse said she will see “how his overall development is”.
I guess I’m stressing because he isn’t doing things like kicking a ball, stacking 4 blocks (he will stack one but prefers to knock them down), he’s not interested in threading a bead onto a piece of string.
He’s had so many different hv’s, there’s no consistency. I don’t even know who his regular hv is meant to be as I see a different one each time.

I expect the community nurse will want to assess for herself tomorrow anyway before making a plan of action for any referrals. Who's made the speech and language referral? That will help lots as the therapist you see will be able to give you lots of advice about helping develop communication and work with your ds and you. If you know your ds is showing some autism signs there's probably some good books out there with guidance about what you can do to help him while he's still little. There are possibly organisations/ charities that might be able to support in getting the right referrals and signposting you to help as well. Hoping someone with experience will be along in a minute!

My DD (now nearly 6 so it may have changed) was referred to the community paediatrician. First the HV went to observe her at nursery too. The paed first diagnosed her with developmental delay because they wanted to wait and see how she developed before assessing for ASD.

She had hearing test and was assessed by SALT. Her speech wasn't behind enough to warrant formal input from NHS SALT but the doctors wrote to education so she got some extra funding at nursery to have some extra support with speech and interaction there.

Her speech and some other areas caught up but other things remained so she was assessed and diagnosed with ASD at age 5 and they dropped the developmental delay diagnosis.

Best of luck OP

My DS has failed most of his communication parts of his 2 year review. I knew he would and had to push for the review but did get a SALT referral.
I don't think they do much before they are 3. Is he in a preschool or nursery because when it comes to referrals they take more notice of the concerns of the setting they are in or the grand parents than they do of the mother! Also they blame lack of development on not being out socialising in a childcare setting. I put mine in preschool when he turned 2 a couple of half days a week to avoid this.
Where I live they don't do the 2 year check until they are 2 and a half and theres a slightly different questionnaire.
You could probably ring the local hospital where the hearing test/SALT referral will come from and ask the waiting times and where you are on the list. Offering to take a short notice cancellation might get you seen quicker especially with the hearing test.

We've had a lot of HV too. My boy recently had his 2 yr review and while I thought he was doing well, he's being referred for speech and behaviour therapy because hes not where he should be. Saying that, the lady did remind me that it should be taken with a pinch of salt because every child is different.
DS also has autistic traits, and his speech isn't at the level that it should be. But apart from being told he needs to have vitamin D spray and to switch to green top milk, it was fine.

Hopefully you'll get any support you need.

Thank you so much for your replies!
He’s not in nursery no, I’m a sahm but I’m at classes most days. It’s the children’s centre who have referred him. The first referral was knocked back as he was too young so this is the second referral. I’ve seen a drop in salt and she said that she definitely wants to see him once he turns two, which he now has. He used to say mama, dada, nanna and roar like a lion but they’ve all gone now. It’s the regression I’m concerned about.
I am thinking of putting him into nursery for an afternoon or two to try bring on his development. He’s there one morning a week at the minute whilst I’m doing a class there.
