What age is it suitable for a child to have a mid sleeper bed

Just that really. I have a 2yo and a bump. We're trying to work out how to move toddler into a bed and save it for the baby one day. We found a nice toddler bed and an extendable bed. We're torn as we envisage needing a mid sleeper with desk underneath in the future as DS room is quite small. Any idea what age they're OK from? 5?

My DD had a mid sleeper from 2.5 but it had proper steps up to it. Depends on the kid and access I suppose.

They all advise that they are not to be used by children under the age of 6yo
I think it's because of the height of the guardrails and the risk of them getting caught in them.

I’d say 4 for a mid-sleeper (although I’m not sure you’d get much of a desk under the height I’m thinking of). For a cabin bed it would be 6 minimum and then it would depend how sensible they were.

We've had one since 3.5. It has proper steps and a sturdy guard rail. There's never been an incident

We have a mid sleeper and DS is 4 however it's a "mid" sleeper i.e. Not tall enough for a desk to go underneath. We do have drawers and a storage cube though which has created enough room for a cot to fit in the room too.

Have a look at the IKEA Kura bed. It's a mid sleeper you can flip over- we are currently using it for our 3 year old. Its bed height at the moment and then when he is bigger we will flip it over so it becomes a mid-sleeper and he can have some more floor space.

Our DS slept in an IKEA KURA mid sleeper (high bed setting) from just over 2 years of age. The bed has sides to prevent them falling out, and he also had the canopy on it. He moved into it to free up the cot for DD. He never fell out. DD now sleeps in it.

Only time it's a pain is if they are sick...

My DS moved into a cabin bed at 3. He's still got the little cot mattress in it as I haven't got round to buying the full size one but it just means there's lots of space around the edges.

I actually got it from B&M though and it was something like £150. He jumps from the top but the step is sturdy. I don't think he could fall out easily.

My kids are on the slight size. DS1 went straight from a toddler bed aged nearly 5 to a bed like you are describing - with a desk, chest of drawers and a bookcase underneath. We got a bed with pretty chunky steps.

Fairy sure the guidance is about the rails and falling or getting trapped rather than the ladders tho.
