feeding nightmare...

my ds is 8 months and had been taking some solid food (i.e. pureed carrot / butternut squash / etc) but for the last 2 weeks he has refused everything except for baby yogurts(which i only give him every other day) and milk.

is this normal? is there anything i can do to get him to eat something without him forcibly ejecting it from his mouth??

could you mix fruit puree in with the yogurt?
Look out, the BLWs will be along shortly!

Maybe he wants to do it himself. My 8 month old sometimes refuses food from the spoon but will quite happily feed herself. Its very messy but its worth it if she's eating.

Sorry, forgot to say, it might be worth doing finger foods if he's still at the puree stage. Or introduce soft solids.
He might be bored with purees. DD2 spent about a week on purees before getting bored, so I tried more grown-up food and now she feeds herself most meals.

blw=baby led weaning.
It's a way of weaning your baby with finger foods (Sorry, this is a very simplistic description!) There are a lot of people interested in it on this site. Quite a controversial topic at times! Some people think the conventional way is best, others think blw is the only way to go. It's best to keep out of debates on the subject - as with breast feeding, formula feeding, controlled crying, etc, eetc, etc! Personally, I think people should do what the hell they like, but I am a woolly mi8nded liberal!
Sorry the mixing hasn't worked.

My DD3 (now 11 months) did this recently.

I had weaned her at about 5.5 mths with a combination of purees and BLW, then a couple of months ago she decided that she was not going to be fed by spoon any more, and wanted to feed herself!

I just chopped up food to a safe, manageable size and stuck it in front of her and left her to it (well not literally, obviously - I was there!). She got stuck in and now eats the same as all of us, and feeds herself totally and is starting to try and use a fork. The only things she will let me feed her are Weetabix and yoghurt.

Remember until they are one milk is the primary source of nutrition and solid food is more for exploration, tastes and learning to chew and swallow. So don't get too worried about the quantity eaten
