We have been having problems with my 3 1/2 year olds bedtime for about 10 months now and I don’t know what to do next. It’s starting to cause real problems with her behaviour, my marriage and with getting my 8 month old to sleep through it.
In a nutshell, she has had the same sleep routine ever since she was little - milk, 2 books in bed, 5 minute talk about the day, kisses & cuddles and to sleep. This used to work brilliantly, But for the last ten months she has NOT been going to sleep, more getting up straight away out of bed and walking downstairs, running around her room, singing, jumping up and down, pulling her quilt onto The landing, having very very loud conversations with her ‘friends’- anything but sleep. It’s taking around 30-40 walk backs into bed before she eventually gives up and goes to sleep about an hour and half to two hours after bedtime has started.
She is a VERY active child, mentally and physically - very intelligent and very advanced in her language etc. She dropped her daytime nap over a year ago and once asleep sleeps until 6-7am.
My husband and I are at a loss as what to do. We have tried saying nothing - telling her off - staying with her and nothing seems to help. She sometimes ends up laughing at us and going stiff so we can’t move her which just makes it even more frustrating.
Once asleep she does not leave her bed and sleeps through until the morning.
Her behaviour has started to deteriorate as a result of the late nights and I can tell she is exhausted but she will not give in....
ANY tips really really welcome as feeing like a rubbish parent right now but I honestly don’t know what to do next.
Thank you xx
