Breastfeeding and caffeine

Hi I'm currently EBF my 12 week old baby and after a rocky start things are now going really well so I'm keen to continue. I'm currently battling through sleepless nights and craving caffeine so badly! Does anyone have any experience of drinking caffeine while breastfeeding? I'm currently sticking to recommended 2x cups of tea a day or 1 cup of strong coffee but it's not really cutting it!

I've never realised there was a recommended limit on tea (hides) I was drinking 6 cups until, well I still do but I stopped feeding her at 1yo last month. I also ate a lot of chocolate

I bf'd 2 DC for 14 months each. EBF both for 6 months. Never knew there were limits on caffeine and never noticed it having any effect

Thanks for the replies! Nhs guidance re caffeine and bf is the same as when pregnant although it can't be too widely advertised. I'm going to try having a little bit more than normal and see if it affects DS at all. Desperately need it to function!

Did either of you drink alcohol while bf and if so how much?

I didnt realise that was the guideline either. I ebf for a year and drank a lot more coffee than that Blush

I didn't drink any alcohol though, I have friends who regularly had a glass or two of wine but I just never bothered having any.

I had a drink when I felt like it. That just wasn't very often! My tolerance is still way down. But it's totally fine to do so.
