Hot head, no temperature - 7 month old

7 month old DD has been quite upset over the past 24 hours - last night she woke screaming at 10 and was still awake at midnight (although then did sleep until her normal 7am) she was red hot and we just thought that her room had gotten too warm so aired it out and after she was stripped down and redressed she was fine.

Today, she's gone through periods of whinging and then been absolutely fine - drank her milk and 'eaten' 3 meals as normal, played and been out in the pram.

But her head is BOILING, it's almost uncomfortable when she's put her face against mine as it's so hot. Her temp was 36.6 last time I checked so normal and her arms & legs are slightly cool - which isn't out of the ordinary for her. She isn't especially drooling and her cheeks aren't massively red (considering how hot they are!)

I've given her calpol which seems to help but not sure if there's any point as she hasn't got a temp but may help with any pain she's having - mostly it just stops her crying as she likes the flavour so she's distracted by it.

I've read a lot that it could be linked to teething.. has anyone else experienced this? She hasn't got any teeth yet but her bottom gums are quite white and hard to the touch although they've been that way for a while now. Or any other suggestions of what else I should be looking out for.

If she wakes again tonight I'll ring 111.

Hi OP sorry to hear your DD is unsettled. Just wanted to say my DD always gets a really hot head when she’s teething so that would be my guess. The calpol will hopefully help to ease it and teething gels can be helpful - anbesol is the best we’ve found. Obviously trust your instincts but hopefully you might see a tooth poking through any day now!
