Would you be informed if your child’s father has applied for any type of custody? If so how? ( not on the birth certificate) seen them maybe 4 times, hasn’t bothered with my child, met when was born didn’t hear from for another 2 years, kicked off, record of drugs, violence. What are the chances?

He’ll be entitled to access no matter what if he is the father unless he’s a total danger to the child and even at that, still may be entitled to supervised visits

It’s not called custody or access anymore.

Yes, you would receive a copy of the court papers of his application and be ordered to attend a hearing.

He isn’t entitled to spend time with your child; the child has a right to a relationship with their father. His absence and drugs/violence will be taken into account when the court decides how much time your child can spend with him and whether any supervision is needed.

I was just wondering how we would be informed, he hasn’t said anything but always do research. He’s not on the birth certificate has no parental rights, I never stopped him he said he wanted to get back with his family etc, said he wasn’t bothered then couple of years down the line was bothered again then said he can’t come as he has to repair his friends car for him instead. We re arranged for the next day he then says nah I’m gonna go back now. So didn’t come,

If you’re in the UK the court he applied to would write informing you of the application

He would need to sort out the birth certificate issue first, which he can apply to court for.

An application regarding child arrangements would lead to a case in which you would be involved. Nothing would happen without you knowing, except him applying in the first place.

As PP said if he really wanted to he would very likely get some kind of contact. It's rare for all contact to be denied.
