Safe sleeping advice

Evening everyone!
I've got a 12 week old daughter and just wondered if anyone had any suggestions for a follow on from Moses basket for naps downstairs.

She sleeps great in her cot at night so that's not an issue but up until recently she slept in a Moses basket on a stand for naps and when I needed to pop her down to leave the room etc. She's totally outgrown this now and we've got a travel cot in it's place and it seems huge and to be honest it's a bit of a struggle getting her in and out so many times as it's pretty close to the floor and my back isn't what it used to be!

I've read the safe sleep advice is to keep baby in the same room as you for all sleeps until one year so don't want to put her upstairs.

Anyone have any thoughts? Anything obvious I've missed?

I used a reclined buggy for daytime sleeps when they outgrew the carry cot bit of the travel system

What about just a comfy thick blanket on the floor? We have a thick blanket folded over several times on the floor and sometimes I lay him down there to sleep. It’s perfectly safe with you nearby, particularly as not mobile yet. Or even just bring the cot mattress down and put it on the floor. This is all assuming you don’t have any pets.

I'll probably get lynched for saying this, but my DD naps on the sofa.

Cot upstairs with baby monitor on. I let mine sleep on the sofa wedged with cushions.

Sorry I should have mentioned I have a pet dog. He's 13 so not exactly a spring chicken but would have to have baba in something more secure than the floor just I case he suddenly became curious.

There seems to be a bit of a gap in the market doesn't there, we kind of need a half way Moses basket/cot for babies as they get bigger!

I have a 7 year old dog too, my MIL bought me a travel cot for the living room when my DD out grew her Moses basket, but she doesn't like sleeping in it.

@myotherbagisgucci they are huge too! My living room is quite small and the travel cot looks huge!

Seems there is lots of great safe sleep advice but in reality it's not quite as easy as keeping your baby in the same room as you, in a cot. Think I'll have to stick with the travel cot for now but it seems I'm not the only one who has had problems working out what to do next!!

Does the base of the travel cot not raise up? Ours had three heights and the top height was higher than the Moses basket. You could use a sleepyhead in there if the open space is proving it harder to keep them asleep

The baby monitor isn’t a safe alternative to them being in the same room I’m afraid. Each to their own choices and all that, but there is a reason they recommend sleeping near you rather than a baby monitor

@InNeedOfALieInNow no, it doesn't lift up unfortunately I might have a look into buying one which has different levels, I wish I'd looked into that before buying ours!

I agree each to their own and I'd never dream of criticising others, but as a FTM I think I'd be too nervous with her upstairs even with a baby monitor. I'm a bloody bundle of nerves at the best of times, I imagine I'd just be going upstairs every 5 mins!

Looks like travel cot is here to stay!

Just an aside, I believe the official advice in the UK is for baby to sleep in the same room as you for at least 6 months, rather than a year (per Lullaby Trust, ISIS, NHS).

What about using the bassinet on your pram? You can detach it from the pram and pop it down on the floor, if your LO still fits in it. Or would that be too tempting for your dog?

I don't really have any advice. Mine still naps on my lap at 8 months old

Ours went into their lay flat buggies for naps from a young age.

I’m sure the age for unsupervised sleep is 6 months? That’s when DS started napping in his cot upstairs

Fisher Price infant to toddler seat!

Used one for all 3 of my children and it's brilliant.

Currently have an 8 week old in ours and plenty of room.

3 in 1 tiny love rocker is good for day time naps. Can be laid flat and then used as a seat and rocker

Oh yes sorry I think it is 6 months for supervised sleeping, think I might have got that wrong in my original post! I think once she gets to 6 months I'll be feeling a bit more confident and I've got a good monitor so that will be good.

Our DS went upstairs in his cot for naps from 12 weeks with monitor.

@Starlive22 my 4 moth old is napping upstairs in her cot now as she always does.

If she does sleep downstairs she's normally on her playmat. We also have a big dog
