When did your baby naturally sleep all night?

I understand babies weren’t designed to sleep all night and it’s a very western thing to want a baby to sleep all night and train as soon as possible, but my god do I want to sleep, i miss it so much!! My son is just such a bad sleeper He’s almost 11 months and his average is waking 5 to 8 times since day 1, on a bad night which happens often is anything up to 20 times. I’ve just gotten over the worst 3 weeks where he was constantly wanting to stand throughout the night and was waking over 15 times every night. But now he’s walking and he finally at last takes longer naps in day no longer have to deal with 20 min naps .. yay ....but he still wakes up around 5 to 7 times a night. What’s the deal?? At night he has a feed every 3 hours and wakes up in between for a cuddle of dummy. He has 3 meals a day breastmilk after morning nap and formula after evening nap and 2 snacks too either fruit or rice cakes then he has 6 oz at 7pm an hour after he has dinner then he has 7 oz plus breastmilk at 8pm but he sill manages to wake and make space at 11 for milk... he’s breastfed throughout the night. When did yours sleep all night naturally without any sleep training?? I’m hearing more and more of people saying there kids still wake for a feed at 2 years old. I thought once there like a year and a half they just don’t want milk at night...

Ds1 by 6days old slept for a least 8 hours. Ds2 I'm still waiting and he's 6 in august!

My 13 month old isn't the best sleeper but started to be better once I started a combination feed and then better again after she was weaning and then dropped the breastfeeding at 6 months. He could be a little attached to you as you are still breastfeeding and he would find it a comfort so unable to self soothe.

He is also having a lot of milk for 11 months, I'd suggest you start to cut this down and ultimately he'll need it less overnight too.

At 11 months my DD was having 3 bottles per day of 6oz each, morning nap, afternoon between lunch and dinner and then as she goes to bed. The afternoon one had now been dropped and she has cows milk for the other two.

Our DD had a few bad weeks of sleep so we have firmed up a bedtime 'routine' with a story downstairs while listening to lullabies on Spotify and then milk in bed with white noise playing all night...before she just had Ewan the Sheep make noise for 20 mins but all night is working better.

They are all different. Growing and teething can be a painful business. And theres a lot going on in their little heads. Have you considered co sleeping? It saves a lot of getting up and down in the night.

DD slept until about 6am around 4 and a half months old which did gradually get later which was bliss. At 9 months myself and DD went to my parent's for 2 and a half weeks (work being done at home) and every night she woke up for around 2 hours. She continued that for a few weeks after we got home. No idea why!
As you're still BF he can smell milk, is dad around to try and settle him so he doesn't automatically want milk?

18 months with the first 2 and a half years with the second - who also used to wake up to 20x per night. They are all different and sleep deprivation is soul destroying. However my 15 year old and 8 year old sleep great now & both will have lie ins until 10am at the weekend sometimes...it doesn't last forever! Flowers

My breastfed DD stopped waking for night feeds at around 20 months. It’s still not consistent though, at 24 months around 4 or 5 nights a week she will sleep well, the other nights will be hard going with lots of awakenings!

My 2 year old (24 months and was formula feed) is just starting to sometimes sleep through the night.

When she wakes we hop into bed with her and she quickly settles back down so it is not a major hardship. We also take turns being on duty alternate nights. When she does sleep through it is still amazing.

Both of mine were breastfed and were sleeping long stretches by 15 months. And reliably did not wake up at all except for illness after 18 months.
I didn’t do any sleep training in the traditional sense but I did the following:

  1. A rock solid bedtime routine.
  2. Keep a food diary and decide that I wasn’t going to feed between 11-5. DS1 has a dummy, DS2 didn’t. For both I began to offer water at that point. By a week or so they weren’t asking for milk then.
  3. Once they weren’t asking for milk between 11-5/6, I began to intervene minimally during that time. I would pat/shush and cuddle if needed. Gradually I moved to just a shush.

4 I also kept them in my room till reliably sleeping through. This maximised my own sleep.
  1. Also if they were awake and fidgeting but not crying I would just let them be and every so often they would drop off to sleep.

Naps are different. I have different rules for naps. In order to set a nap routine I believe in the ‘anything to ensure nap’ philosophy. And if it meant holding the baby and cuddling or feeding back to sleep that’s what I did. Gradually over time once a firm nap routine was established I could start putting down at the same time every day.

First two were 5 months when they starting sleeping though consistently oh how smug I was
Dc3 has only just started sleeping through at 3 and 1/2. It has nearly killed me.
All 3 bf, same routines, nothing different. It is the luck of the draw.

Dc1 was sleeping through in his cot, although getting up at 5am, from 15 months. Breastfed and co slept to start. Did not sleep well early on. We did gradual withdrawal at 12/13 months. He's nearly 3 and has slept through ever since though sometimes wakes up for a wee since potty training.

Dc2 is 15 months. Starts the night in the cot and co sleep/bf from waking up which last night was 4.30am (usually closer to midnight though is starting to get later at times)

DS1 is 6. He takes himself to bed, reads, and switches off the light and is asleep by 7:30 at the latest on most nights and up at 7 am.
DS2 is 1.5 and he is in bed and asleep by 7/7:15 and wakes up around 5 for milk and sleeps till 6:30-7.
Both have had the same night time routine since the day they came home from Hospital. And DS1 still has the bare bones of it- bath, teeth, story (no milk) and then goes to his own room to read. And I then put DS2 down.

1st baby (boy) slept from 5 weeks, baby girl slept from 7months. I found she was hungry so i weaned her early and that seemed to do it. She's really lazy now and loves her sleep through the day. I'd maybe try cutting boobie milk out through the night? I'm assuming it's a comforting thing for him and he's used to it now. What is he like for settling himself? X

Naturally, aged just over 2 and 4.5 years respectively. The first one was easy to soothe at night. The second one was a screaming banshee many times a night for years and broke us.

All 4 of mine have gone about 11-7 from around 8 weeks and then 12 hours from 12-14 weeks. 3 were breastfed, 1 bottle fed. I wouldn't expect any baby not to be sleeping a good chunk by 12 weeks. Regardless of what you'll read on here that IS a reasonable expectation.

I've got a 3.9 Yr old who cannot manage to sleep through. Either it's for a drink, or a wee or a bad dream, or wind (yes still at this age) or illness. Every single night. Always was a bad sleeper from birth.

13/14months.
Mine was very very similar to yours.
She doesnt have a dummy but bf till about 15 months for night time.
I let her bf for going to bed, then she used it as comfort to get herself to sleep between sleep cycles (like it sounds like your boy is doing)
So I point blank refused to feed during the night unless I felt like she actually needed the food and just cuddled her and rocked her instead. Took a week of that and she started sleeping 12hours solid.
Then same for bed time comfort feeds.

Now she has teeth clean, nappy change, book, cuddles in blankie, drink, kisses and bed. Door close, sound machine on. Done.
