Still awaiting baby girls arrival, probably far to early to be thinking about this. Have you pierced your daughters ears? if so at what age do you feel it is appropriate, my sister did her baby at just a few months old. I have a friend who thinks it’s not fair on the child unless they are old enough to ask for it themselves, I am currently in two minds,
What are your thoughts?

I've told her will discuss it when she's taller than me and not a second before that.

I will never understand why people pierce their baby's ears! It doesn't look nice you know that?

Battleax Sun 22-Apr-18 20:49:47

Of course you don’t make holes in people too young to give informed consent.

Dd was 6. She asked and asked and asked.

I don’t personally agree with doing babies ears and I don’t like how it looks. Also when they get crusty/need cleaning and changing etc I can’t inagine my DD letting me as a baby.
I’d consider it around 8 or so if she was asking but on the basis that they had to be cleaned and she had to let me.

Absolutely not as a baby, it is horrible. Over the age of 8 if she wants them for my DD.

DD is 6 . She's not asked about her ears but has decided when she's older she wants her lip pierced 😂

But I'll let her have them done when she's asked and I know she's confident and capable to look after them herself and be able to take the studs in and out for PE etc

Ginger1982 Sun 22-Apr-18 20:52:49

Not babies, no way. It's so wrong.

WLAH Sun 22-Apr-18 20:52:58

Dd asking from 4 and she got them done at 5 and half.

I wouldn’t do it to a baby, nor let a child do it unless they were old enough to care for the piercings sensibly.

Dd (8) doesn’t seem interested at all (she is more keen on lobbying for mermaid-pastel hair colour...) but I’m thinking she can do it for her first year of secondary if she likes.

Flisspaps Sun 22-Apr-18 20:53:11

No. She's 8, if she wants them done then she can have them done in the summer between year 6 and 7, when she can clean them herself.

I hate seeing babies with pierced ears, even if it is 'the done thing' in some cultures.

DD was 4, had no problems with them and no regrets. Do not understand why people go so mad over it.

i had my daughters done on her 1st birthday! she didnt cry and hasnt bothered with them since had them done! she is now 2 and a half!
when we had them done a woman was in there with her 8 yr old! she said she had her ears done recently and with being in school she has to take them out all time and keeps getting infected! she wished she had them done younger!

So you’ve not had the baby but are working out whether you should stab holes in her ears and scar her for life.
You shouldn’t mutilate anyone without their consent (and for the record at one point I had 28 piercings and I have tattoos)

RunningjustasfastasIcan99 Sun 22-Apr-18 20:54:59

2ndry school. I.e when they're not running about as much.

kimlo Sun 22-Apr-18 20:55:04

yes, I have. But she was 13.

Torvi Sun 22-Apr-18 20:55:31

I have enough trouble trimming my 16 month old's nails.

So not a chance.

Janleverton Sun 22-Apr-18 20:55:36

Dd has just had her ears pierced. She’s 14!

She mentioned it at primary school. I said she should wait until year 7 but then she wasn’t fussed. I’ve started wearing earrings again since she had her ears pierced. I had mine done when I was about 17 and fancied it. Was never that bothered.

leighdinglady Sun 22-Apr-18 20:56:28

It should be illegal. If you punch a hole through anyone without consent it's GBH, god knows why the protection doesn't apply to babies. The idea of doing this to my 4 month old daughter is horrific. Plus it looks chavvy as f**k. I'll be waiting for the summer holiday between primary and secondary

64BooLane Sun 22-Apr-18 20:58:01

Lol at someone wishing they’d been done earlier to avoid the school issue. How about, I dunno, not doing them till a bit later? Jeez. They’re only little.

TalkinPeece Sun 22-Apr-18 20:58:16

It would never occur to me to stick sharp objects into my children to disfigure them for life

buckleten Sun 22-Apr-18 20:58:28

I made my older daughter wait until she was 12.younger one doesn't want it done, I think it should be their choice once old enough to understand how to do the aftercare!

Janleverton Sun 22-Apr-18 20:58:37

We went to a piercing studio/tattoo parlour. Hated the idea of the guns and would never have gone to Claire’s accessories having seen them doing babies in the windows. They’re lovely and clean. No issues and really well placed. She’s nearly 15 so well able to keep them clean.

I would not have countenanced her having it done when she was tiny. Absolutely not!

CheesecakeAddict Sun 22-Apr-18 20:58:55

It's so wrong to pierce a baby's ears. I just don't get why people do it. If my DD wants hers doing, she can wait till she's old enough to understand and can clean them herself.
