Baby carrier

Hello all!
I’m trying to help out my little one with reflux. I’m thinking of getting a baby carrier to keep him upright for as long as possible after feeds. I’m just wanting recommendations to be honest as I’ve now worried myself regarding hip dysplacia! I’ve seen this one but I’m not sure if it’s any good or not? www.mothercare.com/front-carriers/mothercare-three-position-baby-carrier/LD2937.html

Thanks all for your help and recommendations! Smile

I would stay away from any that have baby dangling by the crotch, it's not very good for their hips. It's hard to have their legs in a good position if they're front facing as well.

How old and heavy is your son?

Only four weeks and weighs 7lbs 1oz. The majority I’ve seen are front facing so should I knock this idea on the head do you think?

If you have Facebook, I really recommend this page!

You can ask advice on there too and say what your budget is.

They are all very helpful!

Amawrap was great for the little stage, about £40 and I use to leave it on even when ds wasn't in it.

There are few decent carriers that are forward facing. You'll need to spend a bit more to get a good one though. I can't recommend enough using a stretchy wrap - much more comfortable and you can sit down in them. This made going out and sitting and having lunch or just doing things around the house so much easier. I couldn't easily kneel down or bend over in a more structured carrier, nor could I sit and answer emails or sit and watch tv. A wrap is so much more comfortable. We had a moby wrap, but there are lots of different ones (Kari Me, Boba, Close Caboo).

If you want specifically to go for a carrier, you want an ergonomic style one that is parent facing. Ergobaby and manduca are good. There are loads that are appropriate. Avoid these dangly hip ones that face out, especially for reflux. They put a lot of pressure on baby's chest and tummy because they don't offer the right support and that would likely make reflux worse as it's flexing the spine unnaturally. You want baby upright but naturally curled towards your body as a support. Your best bet is to go to a sling meet or set up a consultation with a babywearing peer supporter and try a few out and hire one for a month to see how you get on with it.

I love my Close Caboo, and it really helps with DS's reflux (although beware, I've turned up to coffee shops a few times with vomit all over my chest so don't forget to pack a change of top for yourself if you're out and about with it!).

Get yourself to a sling library to try out for yourself. Certain ones suit different people. I had a Caboo close for my dd2 she was only 5lb and it is one of the few that goes below 8lb.

Get on Google and find your local sling library / sling meet, they'll help you make a good choice, make sure it all fits you and bab, safety checks, and may hire them out cheaply or sell good seconds. They're usually really nice and friendly to boot!

We have a close caboo and love it! There are lots of videos on YouTube to show how to use it and ensure baby’s legs are positioned correctly (in an M position). If you want a more structured carrier you can get a newborn insert for the ergo 360 which as the name suggests is an ergonomic carrier! (we have one...but it can get very hot using the insert!)

You'll generally need to look outside the mainstream baby shops to find anything good. I really liked a stretchy wrap when mine was that age and you can definitely do an upright position in one. Sa-be is the cheapest brand but there is also Moby, kari-me, and boba off the top of my head as brands. Normally you can order directly from their websites but you might find a good deal on a sling sale/swap site on facebook.
