Will milk supply decrease if I don't express or feed during the night?

I have a 10 week old baby girl who is a very healthy weight and has started sleeping from her late feed at 11pm to around 6.30am. When I used to breastfeed her in the early hours of the morning she would take very little and I would then express the rest. If I am not feeding or expressing during these hours will my milk supply go down during the day? Hmm

Before if she slept longer than usual my breasts would really hurt and I had to pump.
It is so nice to finally have a long stretch to sleep through, I really don’t want to have to wake up in the night to express!

Does anyone have any experience in this? Thanks! Smile

As long as you are exclusively bf this shouldn't be a problem, enjoy the sleep!

Are you breastfeeding her on demand the rest of the time? If so, then you'll be fine. Your supply will adjust. She won't be taking less overall, she'll just be taking more calories in the day.

Yes your supply will decrease and rightly so! This is how it works. Your DD doesn't need it at night now so it goes away for that period. You'll make more during the day than before if that's what she now needs. Your boobs mimic what your DD takes/wants so let your DD decide and don't artificially waste your time faffing around expressing for no good reason.

No need to express. I asked this question a couple of months ago and all advice was no need. Took the advice and all was ok.
Unfortunately my baby is no longer sleeping so well Sad

Only if you are very lucky, that is to say probably not. Although given her sleep pattern I would say that you are very lucky so maybe...

And just to add that when my baby did start waking again when he hadn't for weeks, there was plenty of milk there for him!

Wow it’s my first time posting on Mumsnet and such great responses!

That is good to hear that my body should adapt to this new cycle. Such a relief! I’m still going to try to express my leftover milk (if there is any!) after my day feeds so the hubby can give her the late evening feed by bottle- so helpful and freeing!

Thanks all!
