What every day things have your DC not experienced?

There is a boy in DDs class (Y8) who has never watched East Enders or eaten macaroni cheese. DD is shocked about this (her older brothers are shocked that I let her watch it with me)

DD has never eaten sushi.

I'm wondering what other things children aren't being exposed to, whether intended or not.

This is a really interesting thread. I am a teacher and I have recently completed training on teaching reading skills (I’m secondary btw) and the direct impact of students’ world or lack of world experiences on their reading ability is higher than I would have assumed.

DD is only 16 months so has never watched Eastenders but we don’t want soaps at home and she has never had Macaroni cheese as she has a dairy intolerance.

There will be lots but for her ages I and guessing the most common are she has never been on bus, seen me take money from an ATM, played with siblings, seen us read a physical newspaper or read a book although she knows we have them or slept in her own bed/room. There will be many more.

Neither of them are that unusual. Both of mine might have seen the odd episode of EE but they don't 'watch' it. And DS1 has never had macaroni and cheese. He's one of those who can tell he doesn't like something just be looking at it. His brother quite likes it, but I don't so we don't have it.

One of mine has never had a hot drink. He's Year 9.

My 6yo has only just discovered Tesco 24hr superstores Grin as I do most of our shopping online and nearest supermarket is smallish. He loved the Tesco experience so much he asked to go to one when we were on holiday!
