Routines

Right, i am at a complete loss of what to do about my 10 month olds routine.
I have researched and read so many peoples routines and they are all pretty much the same;
Wake 7 am bottle
9 am breakfast
10 am hour nap
11 am milk and snack
1 pm lunch
2 pm nap
3 pm milk
5 pm dinner

I really want to be on a routine like this however, my littlw one is up at 5am most days and will only fall asleep once she has had her bottle so atm we're doing

Wake 5am
Breakfast 6.30am
Milk 7.30am then nap.
Lunch 10.30am
Milk 11.30am then nap until about 1pm
Dinner 2.30pm
Milk 3.30pm
Snack 5.30pm
Bottle and bed 7.30pm.

We cut her 3rd nap as she now goes to bed within hald an hour doesnt take 2 hours to get her to sleep amd she is sleeping through every night so i thought this routinw was fine. However, it worries me how much it differs from those I've read. Ideally her 2 naps would be more spread out but not sure how to go about it because she wont nap unless shes just had her milk. And i go back to work soon so i know nap times changing will be better as I'll be working until 12 everyday. Thanks guys.

Is she waking at 5am because she's hungry?

If she hasn't had a proper meal since 2.30pm the previous day that's a long time without substantial food? What is it she has for her snack at 5.30pm? And how much milk is she having in her bottled?

When my son was that age his routine was:

Awake at 6am and breast feed.
Breakfast at 7am.
Nap at 09.30-11am.
Lunch at 11.30.
Breast feed and nap at 2.30-3pm
Dinner at 4.30.
Up for bath at 6pm.
Breast feed at about 7pm.
Into his cot and asleep by 7.30pm.

The only thing that stood out from your list is the times she has lunch and dinner as they aren't 'normal times' if that makes sense? Maybe adjusting her meal times to a more typical regime and then changing her other routines to fit around her meals may help in some way?

She has a huge feed before bed, and her snack is usually some vegetable or fruit puree that i have made for her.
I do want to get ger meal times a little later in the day its jyst with her waking at 5am, if sge has a bottle then sge will be having 5 bottles a day which seems alot to me? I'm not sure. I need to get it later as when i go back to work she will be at nursery and tgeir meal times are later than usual. It was more ger naps i was concerned about because of how ling she is awake until bed but she wont sleep without having a botrle first. Its so complicated haha

I might try tge snack at 2.30 with a bottle then a meal where she usually has a snack? That will help the feeds just need to sort her naps.

If you have her a bottle at 5am do you think she'd go back to sleep for a while? If so it might be worth trying. And if it does mean she has 5 bottles a day and you're worried about that then you could justify decrease the milk volume in each feed?

You may find though that if she has a bottle at 5, goes back to sleep until 7am and then has breakfast, she then wouldn't nap until about 10am (with a small bottle) and then wake up around midday for her dinner which would help make her meal times more 'normal'.

Meal times are very early. I'd say she's hungry when she wakes.
At that age roughly my dd routine was
Wake - 7am
Bottle -8am
Breakfast-8.30am
Nap- 9am-9.30am
Yogurt - 10am
Bottle-11am
Lunch- 12.30pm
Nap- 1pm- 2.30/3pm
Fruit snack- after nap
Dinner - 5.30pm
Bath - 6pm
Bottle and bed - 7.45pm
Sometimes I'd give her a bowl of weetabix before bed.

She slept right through

Thank you everyone, going to adjust it slightly bit by bit so its not so much of a shock for her. She's doing very well, walking, babbling, sleeping through every night without fail and is a very healthy weight so I'm not too concerned i just want her more "normal" in terms of routine.

Today we had breakfast at 6.30am
Bottle at 8am she then slept til 9.30am and I'm doing lunch at 11am and bottle at 12pm so slightly later than usual.
I would be more than happy to change routine entirely id she'd nap without tyat damn bottle haha.
Again, thank you all xx

Sounds good, if you slightly adjust it every day it will be easier.
Has she always woken at 5? I do remember my dd waking at 5am for about 2 weeks when she was about 18 months. Never figured out why!

Wake 5am - could you give her a bottle then and see if she'll go back to sleep?

Alt

Wake 5am
Breakfast 6.30am
Milk 7.30am then nap.

Lunch 10.30am - change this for a snack
Milk 11.30am then nap until about 1pm
Dinner 2.30pm move this to 1.30/2 and make it lunch
Milk 3.30pm
Snack 5.30pm make this 6 and make it dinner
Bottle and bed 7.30pm

Hopefully if she's fuller at bed time she might sleep longer? You might then get later naps

I think I was quite a bad mom as I don't recall ever giving my child snacks, he just had his set meal times.....

Those snacks sound fine. You can buy bite melt thinks like baby wafers, baby crisps, wotsits and skips that she can baiacally suck to disolution

LauNinethree · 25/07/2017 15:41

She has the melts and loves them! Just see peope giving their 10 month old cucumber and cheese sandwiches and i just dont understand cause there is no way she would be able to eat them 😔

They all wean at different paces, don't stress. She's getting really yummy snacks. I do have a cheese monster but I buy farted for him. Cucumber always scared me althoifh he liked celery dipped in hummus and its less likely to break off. He'd toothlessly gnaw on the celery then hanhait back haha

I think about 10 months my DS had the following routine

7ish Wake and bottle
8ish breakfast
9-10.30 nap
11ish bottle
12ish lunch
1.30-3 nap
3ish bottle
5/5.30 dinner
7ish bottle and bed

Around that age I dropped a bottle though and basically swopped the 11am and 3pm bottles for snacks and gave him a bottle around 1. That meant he ate more for snacks/lunch as he wasn't as full up on milk.

Lots of friends were still doing a 5am feed though, but then the baby would go back to sleep for a couple of hours and have breakfast around 7/8 which moves them to a more 'normal' schedule

Those organix range crisps are good for snacks and the little organic yogurts. Also mashed banana mixed with yogurt. Has she got many teeth? I gave puréed food to dd for too long cos I was afraid she would choke! It became a problem week I was still mashing up dinners at 18 monthsBlush
Luckily at 4 I don't need to do it anymore Grin
What about toast as a snack?

Report

And it just seems to depend on the baby. My DS took really well to solids so we were the people giving him sandwiches and veg sticks at 10 months, but his portions were small cos he had a lot of milk still.

Once we reduced the milk then solid food really took off. For snacks I would usually do cheese and crackers or fruit or a bit of toast. He also liked those baby rice cakes and melting cracker things as well as puréed/mushed up fruit and things.

Also if shes starting nursery soon then she'll soon adjust to their routine. She'll be tired for the first week but then will get used to the new nap and meal times

Hi all thank you!
She has always done well on her weaning took to all foods straight away, she just doesn't have teeth yet so sometimes struggles with chewing the things that don't melt.

She has been at nursery for 1 day a week for a while now and their routine was the same as ours but we're moving house so a new nursery and their routine is completely different so im slowly trying to alter her before she goes so its not such a shock.

We tried a different routine yesterday only slightlt but akready she seems much more content. Slept through still so didn't effect her sleep but was still up at 5.30am. I think she may just be an early bird haha.

Thank you all for the advice x
