Listening service

I'm staying in a hotel in the UK with my baby and the hotel has a listening service. Basically for a few set hours in the evening you can put your baby to bed in your room, switch on the monitor which links to reception, let them know and go for a meal or a drink in the hotel or use the leisure facilities. They listen out for your baby and you can't leave the hotel grounds.

I'm intrigued to know does anybody actually do this? Given other high profile cases that have been in the news over the years, I don't think I would leave my baby in a hotel room. I know the door would be locked, but any of the hotel staff could surely access the room if they really wanted to?

I'm just curious to know what other parents think about it.

I'm never comfortable about this. What if there was a fire?

I would never have used a service like that. By the time the hotel staff notice that there's and issue, come and find you and you get upstairs, your baby could have been crying for quite a while. And what if there was a fire.

Yeah I agree. I'm surprised they offer the service, surely they would be responsible if something went wrong. When we were kids we used to stay in family friendly hotels where the kids ate their tea early and then went to bed and then the adults had their tea at a later sitting. They had a similar listening service, but that was 30 years ago and things were different then.

I wouldn't. Likewise not comfortable with sending one of the parents in a group round every 30 minutes to listen or look in - it can end in tragedy, as we know. I think you either pay for a proper babysitter or take DC with you to sleep in a pushchair.

And no they wouldn't be responsible imo, the parent would be responsible.

Think it depends on the hotel, to some degree. I know people who have used the childcare services at this hotel in the West Country and been really impressed with the high standards of care (so you should be at the price):

Still not sure I'd leave DS alone though ...
