Stopping breastfeeding, advice please!

My daughter is 1 on the 31st May and originally I wanted to stop breastfeeding when she is 1ish although I am not against feeding for longer. She has 3 feeds a day. She will feed once in the morning as soon as she wakes up, once before bed and then when she wakes up in the night. She is currently in our bedroom so she goes to sleep at 7pm in her cot. Then we come in around 11-12 and she wakes up to come into our bed or else she won't sleep because she can see us.

Tonight I tried to put her down without a feed and a beaker of milk instead just to see how she would be cutting out one feed and she was having none of it so I obviously fed her.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice for me or whether I should just carry on feeding her until she tells me to stop? Xx

If you and your daughter are enjoying breastfeeding then I'd keep going until she self-weans. Especially as your feeding her in the early morning and at night - you've got a nice relaxing start and end to the day, and aren't restricted during the day eg if you are going out and want to leave her with her dad, at nursery etc.

I fed my daughter until she was about 2. By the time she was about one, we were also down to breakfast and bedtime feeds. But a couple of times she was poorly, didn't want to eat her normal food but would happily have a feed from me. That made me really glad I'd kept up the breastfeeding. It was also useful when we were on holiday abroad and she wasn't keen on the food.

You've already given her a great start by breastfeeding for so long, but there isn't really any reason to stop just because you're coming up to the time span that you'd originally planned.

Thank you Cadriadlet I agree that it's good that I only have the two feeds now so nobody has to know that she is still feeding if I don't want them to(people who judge, most people don't though) I am currently trying for baby #2 though. How would feeding work while I'm pregnant? Sorry if I sound stupid but while I'm feeding would I still produce enough milk for the baby. Or if I was to stop feeding half way through the pregnancy, would I stop producing milk altogether? Xx

I continued to BF DD whilst I was pregnant, just a couple of feeds a day. I know it is possible to have issues with supply and some don't like the taste of breastmilk during pregnancy but I didn't have either of those with DD.

My DC is also one at the end of the month and I too am planning on giving up breastfeeding then. I want to lose some weight and don't think it's a good idea to diet whilst feeding. I'm still giving a feed during the daytime. Have you moved over to formula for daytime or just solids and water? My DC wakes up twice in the night for a feed. I'm Hoping that will reduce.

tea I'm hoping it's not too much of a problem as I know people do breastfeed while pregnant and everything is normal.

joinourclub I have just given solids and water. I have tried not to supplement formula as I really wanted her to just be breastfed. X

Likely her routine would change if she went into her bedroom so you could use that as an opportunity to cut out the night feed if you wanted to.
Or carry on!!
