5 1/2 month old started waking again

Hi everyone.
My little one who is 5 1/2 months old has started walking in the night for feeds again. She was going from 8:30-5:30 in the morning from 8weeks till last week. Now she's up twice in the night. The only thing she wants is a bottle to soothe her back. I've started baby rice and porridge before bed. I really don't know what it could be, is it a development phase? is it normal to start waking at this age.
Thanks in advance. Xx

I'd stop the baby rice and porridge before bed for a couple of days. It sounds like she's having trouble digesting it.

If she's got all the signs of readiness for starting solids I'd try her with some breakfast instead of giving her something before bed. That should give her tummy time to digest it during the day.

Sometimes it's a phase - hope it doesn't last too long! My dc2 went from sleeping through to waking 2-3 times a night at 6 months and then didn't sleep through again for a year!!!! The sleep journey is a long one, it's much more likely to be developmental than food/drink related.

Sleep regression - needed for the brain development required to sit and start crawling. You just have to live with it until it's over. Giving nutrient-poor stuff like baby rice (there are lots of reasons never to give that to any baby, never mind one under 6 months) won't do anything.

I've only started baby porridge and rice since she's been waking to see if it was hunger that was waking her. But it seems like it's not hunger as such.. fingers crossed it won't last too long. My first child slept through from 7 weeks and has done since so this is a whole new ball game. Thanks everyone so far xx

Sleep development in babies isn't linear.

It goes from, good, bad, ok, great.

You could try upping milk feeds during the day but more often than not its just a case of riding it out

If it is hunger, then unfortunately the baby rice or porridge is likely to make hunger worse not better. It has far fewer calories than her milk. If you think it's hunger, much better to get an extra feed in during the day Smile

Have you got the wonder weeks app? It tells you when to expect these developmental leaps.

Yeah she's currently going through a 'stormy phase' week 2 out of 5. So maybe the sleep waking is that!! Tiredness is the hardest 😴
