Worried about DS (10 months) large stomach

DS was born a big baby (9lb 6oz), BF exclusively for the first 8 months, and has stayed on the >96% range in height and weight since birth.

He's also had a large stomach size (based on antenatal ultrasounds scans) from birth and has always had a great appetite for both food and milk.

I know we are lucky with his size and appetite in many respects but here is the thing - I am worried by how large his tummy is. We were told he would slim down once he started crawling and moving about, and he has - but his tummy is still very big. To give you an idea, he wears 18 month old trousers and most of them, unless very elasticated around the waist, can't be done up around his waist. He's always frustrated at the end of mealtimes unless he has had loads of food (he is happy with both spoon feeding and feeding himself). But then he also has lots of burps even hours after mealtime.

HVs and GP keep saying it's nothing to worry about because they see him as a healthy big boy. I feel like my concerns are being dismissed because there is no "acute" issue per se. Neither advised me to ration portions even though I asked about it. That feels like putting him on a diet Confused... But should I!?

Any advice from anyone whose DC has been in similar situation would be gratefully received.

My DS2, 19 months also has a big tummy, his nappies and trousers go underneath it. He is the opposite to DS1 who even now at 13 can't wear trousers without the elasticated adjuster to make them smaller.
Like your DS mine was 9lb 5oz born, always bf, even now he still has a good feed morning and night. I'm not too worried about him as I do think as he grows it will go but I don't let him have chocolate, crisps, cakes and I make sure he has a good run round everyday.

My DS was 7lb1 born but then didn't lose any birthweight and at Week 4 started gaining 1lb per week till he was about 16lbs in weight. He was massive! Like you he was, and is, breastfed. He's now 27mths old and still in 12-18mth clothes because once he got to 1yr old he jut started running about and anything he ate he just burnt off. He still has 2-3hr long feeds day and night plays meals but he's just a hungry boy. He went from 25th up to 90th and is now on the 5th percentile. He's now 20lbs in weight.

Dd is a tiny little thing, born early and even now at 20m she is small for her age. But her tummy is huge!

Hv and gp both said it's normal. They have a lot of internal organs to fit into their little torsos and also their stomachs get full up very quickly and it's really visible.

We go trousers up under her tummy rather than around it.

Pics to show how large her tummy is compared to the rest of her body.

My DD is little (still in 9-12 month clothes at 16 months) and her tummy is huge! It's so big, she likes to look at it and slap it 😂

My 4 year old had a big belly as well, it's only been in the last year that he's lost his chubby belly. He's a right skinny minny now.

Thanks everyone! it sounds like I should just wait and see how things go once he starts running around!
