What are the rules on getting your child christened?

Depends which denomination of church, I guess - or if you aren't really a Christian, you can have a naming ceremony which can be anything you want.

Rules? Dont you just speak to the vicar at your usual church and ask him or her when they can perform the baptism? Once thats arranged choose some godparents and decide if you want a little do afterwards.

If it's a CoE christening, they have a very helpful website that covers most of the basics.

The CofE has a comprehensive set of information here:

or if you want a non-religious alternative

Assuming this is for a new baby of yours, congratulations. smile

If CofE bear in mind that the Godparents all have to have been christened themselves. I didn't realise this and asked one of my best friends who wasn't christened to be Godmother. She actually decided to get Christened a few weeks before my DD so she was able to do it.

If you're thinking of a Catholic christening it's usually more involved, parenting classes, being an active member of the church etc.
