Toddler Taming is good, because it is straightforward, and when you read it you'll probably find you are (sort of) doing a lot of what it suggests, it's like a refresher on straightforward ways to deal with behaviour.

Basically, reward the good behaviour you want to encourage, ignore (or don't give attention to) the 'bad' behaviour

Be consistent

Children thrive on attention, so while they would love lots of grade A premium lovely attention, if they aren't getting any they will play up because 'bad' attention, eg getting told off, it better than having no attention... makes sense when you read it in the book
