First baby "oh cr*p!" box

My sister is pregnant with her first and due in the summer, and I'm super excited to be an auntie so I'm going totally overboard with gifts.

I'm putting together a "post birth" set, which includes unscented/gental wash stuff, chocolate, meals in a mug etc. I'm doing a nappy cake with stuff for the baby like bibs and muslins and bottles etc, but I also want to do a panic box which I've called the "Oh Crp!" box.

The idea behind the Oh Cr
p! box is that if she gets caught out at 3am when all the shops are shut she can check the box and see if there is something which can tide her over until the morning.

So far I have:
Calpol
Kids vapour rub
Bepanthen
Lanolin cream
Saline nasal spray
Emergency nappies
Antibacterial hand gel
Disposable bed mats (in case of multiple sick ups/nappy leaks in the Moses basket/to wipe up projectile vomit on the floor etc)
Baby wipes
Teething gel
Teetha teething granules
Baby wipes
2-3 premixed formula (in case the baby has trouble latching and she needs to give the baby something)
Muslins
Colic drops
Nipple shields

Can anyone think of anything I've missed? She lives 200 miles away so I want her to have all her bases covered seeing as I can't be there to give day to day support.

I think your going way, way, way overboard and if I were your sister I would feel patronised, like I couldn't think of those things buy myself!

Things that are great are things like, really nice muslins, chocolates, fruit, the mug meals, cashmere socks for mum, flowers, a couple of outfits for baby, posh hand cream etc.

Leave the genital wash for mum to buy! Smile

I think she is leaving genital wash to her sister to buy Grin she's buying gentle wash.

Great idea. Lovely and thoughtful. You could maybe get a couple of the disposable sterilised bottles to go with the premix formula too.

I think it's a great idea there was many times I had to send my oh to the 24hr tesco for bits. Maybe add maternity pads I was always running out of those.

As I said on your other thread, unless you are really really confident she wants it, don't buy formula and definitely don't buy presterilised bottles. I'd have been annoyed and offended if my siblings had done that for me.

I would not be impressed with this. There are lots of things that she may not want to use or may want to choose herself e.g. Bottle and formula brand.

Buy her and the baby something luxury that she would not buy herself eg posh muslins and get her a pregnancy massage. IMO every day products don't make special gifts.

Cook vouchers are often recommended on here.

Sorry I would hate that. I have two children, the only thing on that list I used was calpol. It's would just be a huge waste of time, money and space.
I would hate a nappy cake also

I wish you were my sister that sounds fab! (I admit i'm not easily patronised though)
As you have some of the premixed formula how about some of the ready sterilized bottles?

I think it's a nice idea. If it were me,
I'd leave out the nappies and wipes - not the type of thing you let yourself run out of, and I would add a calpol plug in or snufflebabes instead

I wouldn't like that. And besides, it's pointless - if she's run out of anything she has to look in the box? So in theory some stuff could stay there for months. Just get her a really nice present.

Lol! Whoops!

I stand by my point, obviously there are people who would appreciate everything being bought for them but I found that part of the fun of being pregnant. You know your sister though!

That's quite sweet and I am guessing that you know your sister and she will be touched. I'd leave out the pre mixed formula though (unless you know she is planning on FF, but even then she may have a particular brand she is planning on using).

Have you tried counselling for your poor self esteem?

Snacks! New mums, especially when breastfeeding, get very hungry at 3am...
I think it sounds like a very thoughtful gift for your sister.

Well I like the idea!
I'd add a few bars of chocolate and a mini bottle of gin.

I'd love this OP. This is exactly the kind of thing I worry about for birth and the early months!

I'm having my first baby soon, and i've got all of those things. It's an exciting part of having new baby I think.
I would really appreciate a big casserole or something easily eat able, or babysitting vouchers.
You know your sister best though.

If you was my sister I would love that

Especially the formula for when my BF did fail

Obviously you know your sister best and whether she would genuinely appreciate it or be offended

Formula would have pissed me off too and my self esteem is fine thanks

I don't think what art said suggests low self esteem but buying and giving formula to someone who said they are breast feed is undermining their parenting decisions. I planned to breast feed, bought formula incase and mix feed until I had to stop due to illness but buying formula was my decision.

I think it's a lovely idea. The formula/bottles thing is ok in context of an 'emergency' box, and I'm a bfg zealot. No suggestions but keep going. It might stand in the corner most of the time but one night she'll be desperate and you'll be her life-saver.

It's formula not Coke.
