What to sit DS (5 months) in?

Help! DS is huge and has outgrown his bouncy chair (and wants to sit more upright.) everyone in my breastfeeding group said get a bumbo, it's what everyone uses. So I tracked down a 2nd hand one, went round the ladies house, sat him on it and he looked like giant sat on a toadstool! So no way. He isn't sitting up unaided yet, so what do I do?! Just always have him laid down?

At this age my baby was mostly lying down on the floor playing, on his front or back. He also played a bit in a mammas and papas play seat thing. But to be honest at this age, tummy time is the best thing for them!

Might be just the bouncy chair but it was bending under his weight! (He's coming up 18 lb.) ZZZZ thanks, need to do more tubby time! As long as he's not missing out by not being sat up (except when I'm supporting him)

We have the baby Einstein jumperoo and also the fisher price sit me up seat which we alternate. We do tummy time too but he likes to vary his position Grin

Mama and papa snug chair. But ideally he needs to be on the floor a lot to help him move.

What about the fisher price sit me up seat?

Thanks everyone! The mamas and papas one looks like the bumbo, I don't think he'll fit it. But the fisher price one looks great, and/ or a jumperoo. Just got to find them 2nd hand now! Thanks!

If that doesn't work out, the rubber insert (coloured bit) of the mamas and papas one comes out, making it very roomy (my ds was over the 91st centile for weight)

My baby was and still is off the growth charts as she's very big yet she still fits the mamas and papas snug seat (can climb out so doesn't use it anymore for that reason). I definitely recommend this and also things like a v shape pillow or donut ring nest are good for babies who can't quite sit up

If he isn't sitting up he doesn't need sat up (if that makes sense)...
Tummy time and he will get sitting in his own tome and not need a seat as such.

Save your pennies and let him roll around on floor exploring. He'll sit when ready. Sitting him a chair won't make him do it on his own any faster.

I just propped DS up with cushions etc to sit him up. Also a breastfeeding pillow was really helpful for that.

Thanks! I do prob him up in the breastfeeding pillow but he slips down again, and he does love lying on the floor on his front or back but sometimes wants to sit up too so he can look around. I'll try the fisher price thingy, at least I've got it 2nd hand! (I wouldn't of spent £60 on it!)

The Mamas and Paps snug is much bigger than a bumbo. We could never use the bumbo, as chunky DS never fit in Blush, but the sung was invaluable until he could sit up unaided which wasn't til 7 or 8 months, so was also great for weaning. There's usually loads on eBay fairly cheap.

My 2 (aged 2 and 4) still use their Fisher price baby to toddler rockers. They love them and still fit comfortably.

My DD is 20lb (7 months) and there's still plenty of room in her mamas and papas snug if you're interested in a seat. They're usually on gumtree or similar for a good price, and have a nice tray toy which DD loves. Also useful for eating in when weaning starts as is more portable than a high chair so good to take to other people's houses.

I second that the mama & papas snug is much bigger than the bumbo - I couldn't wedge DS's chubby little thighs in a bumbo but he sat happily in a snug. He still used it regularly once he could sit unaided too as we had the play tray attachment which he loved.

The mamas and papas one is excellent. The coloured insert comes out to make it much more spacious. My 2 yr old still likes to climb into it. It's also much more stable than a bumbo due to the shape of it. Although by 5-6 months my DC were mad about the jumperoo. My Best Buy ever! The M&P snug was so handy though for brining to other people's houses (wheee there was no high chair etc) especially for feeding the DC in once weaning had started. So it'd be worth looking for one on gumtree even for that I think.

Thanks guys just looked it up and I can get a mamas and papas seat for £10 2nd hand so I can get that too. Looks like it doesn't take up too much room so I can have both and he can decide which one he prefers. Cheers! Ps thanks for the link, I sat him up in a box the other day!
