Baby Poo Question 💩 (sorry!!)

Dd3 is nearly 5 months and EBF. Up until last week she did one big poo a day, pretty much like clockwork.

About a week ago she had a day when she did about 6 poos, all normal looking. Since then she hasn't pooed at all until today where she's done 3 good size ones already.

She's totally well in herself, happy, sleeping and eating as usual, no health concerns whatsoever.

I don't want to take her to the GP as she doesn't seem at all unwell but I'm a bit concerned that her bowel habits seem to have totally changed. Has anyone ever come across anything like this before??

My DD is ff but used to occasionally not be as regular, or go more than usual. Keep an eye on consistency/colour but I wouldn't be concerned based on what you have written.

Thanks Spacefrog... I can't remember this happening with the other two but it's useful to know your dd did something similar!

Ds was bf until he was 6 months - he had a tendency to go up to 5 days without a poo, then a major blowout, and repeat.
I miss those days - 8 month old now and solid food poos are horrid.

If she's having a growth spurt she might be retaining a bit more of her intake iyswim. As long as nappies are wet and the poo is the right colour and consistency when it does appear (orange seedy korma anyone?), there's no need to worry.

Ok this is really helpful, thanks. Quite possibly a growth spurt, I think she's due one!

Yes, our DS's poops seemed to change in frequency at about 5 months as well, going from every 2-3 days to about once a week. It's apparently perfectly normal for a EBF baby to go up to 2 weeks without pooping, although I dread to think what the nappy would be like after that! As long as she's still doing plenty of wet nappies then I wouldn't worry.

I've just checked LLL and they say up to 10 days without pooping is normal, so go with that Smile (can't remember where I read 2 weeks).

Oh I remember this with dc1. He went through 2-3 months of pooing about once a week. After a few days of no poo I'd dread going out in case the explosion appeared while outShock

Similar age baby (almost four and a half months) and EBF also.
About 3 - 3.5 months we went overnight from daily to every 3 days. It was clockwork and I don't know why it happened suddenly and after a few weeks I even stopped taking a changing bag with me on no poo days (and staying in all day on poo days until he'd been!). Then the other week poos 2 days in a row and then on the 3rd day 3 times that day. He then didn't do one for 6 days and then yesterday was after 2 days. All very weird! (And very sad I know all this too).
