I need a buggy my child can't escape!

Please tell me what the holy grail of buggy is that I seek!

I currently use a Chicco London stroller which is a fairly cheap umbrella stroller and my DD (23 months) is now able to slip out of the flimsy straps that can't be tightened enough and puts her feet under the wheels so I have no choice but to let her out which just isn't safe at times!

I also have a Britax Affinity travel system. She sits much better in this and although she does have a strop when she wants to get out, because it has a proper harness, elevated seat and bumper bar she can't get out. The Britax is a beast though with massive back wheels so really too difficult to use when needing to get in and out of shops and especially on and off buses.

So I need a combination of the two really - something with a higher and deeper seat so that she won't be able to reach the floor and with a harness rather than flimsy straps. Being able to add a bumper bar would be a benefit too. Narrow wheels are very important as I need to get on & and off buses and we need to be able to use it abroad too so it needs to fold all in one too. I don't really want to spend more than £200 as this is my 3rd buggy for the same child - clearly i'm not great at choosing them despite spending hours comparing and reading reviews!

So MN what will it be? I've heard great things about the Baby Jogger City Mini but the back wheels look pretty wide? The Armadillo City also seems to look good too.

I've a mountain duo, obv you don't want a twin but the large air tyres atop any feet dragging and it has a harness.
Mine aren't big escapers but kids that are have been in it and not escaped so I think.its good for that. Large tyres also make it very light to handle. I assume.they dona.single.

Not sure of the answer but I had to get rid of my Armadillo because my DS could work the clasp. He never figured out the Maclaren Techno XT though and still can't work it at 3.5 (he tried to help his little brother escape!). I don't particularly like the Maclaren but it's a great pushchair that covers all bases.

Have you tried the clips they sell on eBay I can't remember what they are called but they clip onto each strap and hold them together, that's what I used to use on a mcclaren buggy as actually opening the buggy is quite hard but can slip arms out and climb out

You need a Houdini strap. They sell them on Amazon/eBay.

I'll definitely have a look at this Houdini strap but still think she'll be able to get her feet under the wheels which forces me to stop.

I gave up and brought start right shoes and reins, the buggers can walk....

Haha gowgirl! If only she would wear reins - you would think they are lined with stinging nettles the way she carries on if I try and put them on. She just goes down, won't walk in them. Have been meaning to try those back pack ones!

Could you get her some reins or a wrist strap for her to walk occasionally? If she has a little freedom she might be more incomes to sit in the buggy when you 'need' her to. Sorry not very helpful

No suggestions re new buggy but when each DC and DGC
went through the Houdini phase we used a proper harness (like you'd use with reins) as well as the buggy straps. No escaping !

Houdini stops are for car seat straps.

Just to answer your first post The armadillo city is a nice buggy( got it for a holiday) but I had to put the houdini stop on the strap to stop my 18 mo climbing out!

I had the best buggy with my first two. A Mamas and Papas Aria, honestly it ticked every box. One of the best features were floating straps - they weren't anchored at the shoulder, they were anchored at the seat area so your child could sit forward and not feel restrained plus it wasn't possible to get out as they were more like reins iyswim.

Sadly for my third i cannot find anything like it, you sometimes see them on gumtree or eBay so definitely worth a look.

If you do find one, don't buy it without the snack tray! Lots of them seem to have it missing (can't see why as mine was never loose) the floating straps would make that unsafe imo.

I've got an Armadillo XT so the wheels are chunky at the back, but I get on and off buses with no issues, and it folds into one (one hand fold too!). The clasp is very stiff, and because it reclines all the way down, the leg rest can be used horizontally, which may stop her from dragging her feet under the wheels.
The one thing I don't like about it is that the seat is slightly reclined at all times, so DS can't sit straight up and slouches slightly. I presume when he is older (currently 20 months) he'll be more inclined to sit forward himself. There's also no bar.
