So my mum keeps buying my 2.5 year old son presents. She has one every time she sees him. Usually something impractical like metal golf clubs ( think toddler swinging near his little sister or TVs or windows) or ball point pen with loads of beady things on the top? (think writing on walls, smacking people in the face), a GIANT teddy after I've said many many times my DS has no interest in teddys.

I've tried asking her not to buy him presents as he doesn't need them and they are usually relegated to the toy heap shortly afterwards.
The same happens for birthdays and Christmas. I've asked for practical presents such as zoo passes or just money in his post office account. Not only am I not being listened to but we're slowly drowning in toys. She's been holding off buying for my daughter but keeps promising to 'fill her room' with dolls confused

Any other strategies to try?

Ask her to keep them at her house.
