Dinner and bed time for 1 year old

I'm heading back to work in two months time when DS turns one year old.

At the moment he has lunch at 12ish and dinner at 5ish and is breastfed in between. We've been offered a place at a fantastic nursery but unfortunately they don't offer dinner (only lunch and snacks), which means that by the time we all get home from work and nursery it'll be 6.30pm before DS gets his dinner (and I'll have to be super organised and have things prepared!) Add to this a bath and getting ready for bed, it looks like it'll be 8ish for bedtime (it's 6.30-7pm now). We need to be up at 6am (not a problem I suppose, we have 5am wake ups just now.)

Does this sound too late for a one year old? I'm not sure we have much of a choice but I need reassurance that I not going to break him with too late an evening meal and bedtime!

Does he nap in the day?
It might take a while for him to get used to the new routine but as long as he's getting enough sleep he should be fine Smile

I don't think that sounds like enough sleep for a 1 year old. Would the nursery give him a packed lunch finger food type dinner that you supply? I don't think it particularly matter for little toddlers to have a cooked meal in the evening as long as they are having enough food through the day.

At the moment he has a 1.5 hour morning nap (on me) and around an hour in the afternoon (in the pram). He's never been all that great at sleep but is a very happy little boy.

The kids bake every day at nursery which gives them their mid-afternoon snack and I was told that he is free to eat again whenever he likes (they have rice cakes/fruit/flapjack type stuff always available). They get hot milk at 4.30ish so I think maybe that and another nibble will get him through to dinner.

Sleep wise I thought that 8pm-6am would be enough! At the moment I'm very lucky to get 7pm-5am out of him....

Thanks for your comments everyone.

I think 6.30 is too late for dinner in a 1yr old. At this point you want to be getting them calmed down and settled ready for bath and bed. I'd either do as other PP said and provide a packed lunch type meal the nursery can give him for you or I'd find a different nursery that does provide and evening meal.
My personal experience of my dc going to nursery all day (8-6) is that they are absolutely shattered after a busy day and really only want to go to bed. You could find your ds is too tired to eat that late and end up skipping the meal.
