How do you play with a 2 month old baby?

DD is two months old now. We have tried a couple of parents and toddler groups but I am reluctant to sign up for some thing like baby sensory as it more just be some where else to feed or sleep.

At home we sing songs, read books, chat, bounce in chair and she plays on her play gym. I have just a foil blanket for her to lay on. What else can we do?

Just take her out and enjoy sitting having snuggly cuddles in Costa or chatting to her while our walk around an art gallery or explaining the plot line to hame of thrones while she kicks her legs.

Thanks. I try to talk to her as much as possible so I end up narrating everything. I am just getting bored of 5 little ducks and head, shoulders, knees and toes etc.

2 months? You're doing enough!

Have you got a bouncy chair (not jumperoo... 2 months may be a bit young)?

I saved all my chores like washing up/cleaning for when my son was awake when he was that age, as he was happy to watch me.

If you get really stuck, watch in the night garden with him. My baby loved that from around 8 weeks. He's 5 months now and a lot more playful, so playtime gets easier :)

Doing all the right things. Chat away to her, it will be a while till she can chat back but I think this really helps with vocabulary.

We have a bouncy chair. I often put her in it in front of the mirror. She loves herself.

I didn't really do any of that, just popped them in a sling and did what I wanted, or read a book like jack reacher out loud laying on the bed with them next to me.

She'll also enjoy listening to you chatting away to friends, family etc., so don't feel you have to focus it all on dd, she'll be v. happy, and get a lot out of joining in with your socialising , too.

I go to a church playgroup and the babies like to lie next to one another on the floor, and watch each other. That's pretty much it.
There's no need for anything more at this age.

Agree with pps. DS cried/fed/slept through extortionate baby classes at that age, although I enjoyed them and it helped me get out of the house. It also gave me ideas of things I could do at home.

Having said that, DD, who is 7 weeks practically lives in the sling/bouncy chair/playmat and just watched a DS and get dragged about to his activities.

You don't! Just get on with what you want to do - I did the narrating thing too - and lots of walks / meeting friends etc, not just watching TV. Having said that, an afternoon film with a sleeping baby on my chest was one of my absolute favourite pastimes!

My baby is five months old. I think we started doing baby sensory class at 3 months. Up until then I was definitely mostly doing as others describe - concentrating on doing what kept me sane such as meeting with friends, and going out in car or with pram (so he would sleep!). I think it's probably only the last month or so that he's starting to engage with the class a bit. So only start doing classes when you feel you and him are ready - emphasis on you actually, as the babies really don't care too much! But if you want to do something different, meet new people, get a bit more structure to your week then go for it when the time is right.

Nothing. Just feed her, carry and hold her close as much as you can! At 2 months babies just like to be held. The baby sensory classes and all that are just for you to meet other parents and get out of the house.

2 month olds are largely focussed on sleep and milk! A playgym to lie under and look at things, a few rattles to shake at him and a couple of putdoor walks is loads

I think I did baby massage around 2 months because ds was very colicky and was willing to try anything! This then gave me something else to do at home but totally agree with others just meet up with mums and enjoy lots of tv/cuddles! Chatting to other adults is far more entertaining than narrating life by yourself with baby! Most baby/toddler groups are only a couple of pounds and you get coffee!
