Hi, I've just joined Mumsnet because I feel I need advice regarding my son and everything else I have tried seems to just failed. To put think bluntly he is just an absolute pain. He never listens, he always chooses to do what he wants instead of what he knows is right, his attention span is awful, school work doesn't interest him at all and he doesn't even try he just complains how boring it is, he has occasionally hurt other children at sch which he is always sorry for but never has an explanation for why he's done anything. His answer is always sorry and that's all he can seem to say. He knows right from wrong and it's like he just can't help himself and I'm so frustrated with it now I don't know how to deal with it. He is not enjoyable to be around. From the moment he wakes up to the moment he goes to bed he just antagonises and acts up and winds everyone up and I just feel like screaming into a pillow. Why does he not know why he's doing this? What can I do to make him learn and stop? Taking toys away, time outs, being sent to bed early, no fun trips, nothing stops his behaviour. He is just in his own head and has no concept for what is going on around him or what is expected of him. He just does as he pleases.

That sounds very frustrating, have you had a chat with his teachers ? Apart from the lack of interest in school work does he join in at school ? P.e ? Or art or other subjects ?

Has he got any hobbies at home that keep him interested ? Boredom definitely has an effect on my 8yr ds he winds his sister up and lolls around. He has been given grown up jobs to do which helps with his attitude.
