Breastfeeding and weaning - advice please

My 6m daughter has been ebf since birth. For the last month she has shown all the signs for weaning and for the last week I have been giving her some Ella Kitchen purée pouches. She absolutely loved them. I only give about a third of a pouch for breakfast, lunch, dinner etc. She's still wanting milk though all through the day and is even waking more at night for feeds. Is this normal? Should I be still giving her as much milk? She has become more unsettled at night too and wanting more milk, could this be because she's having food? Would really appreciate your advice. I couldn't breathe feed with DS and weaning and BF is all new to me. Thanks

Yes, you still keep giving just as much milk. Gradually as the food increases she will cut down on the milk by herself (either the feeds will be just as many but smaller or she may refuse some feeds altogether).

In fact you may do better if you slow down on the food a little bit. Milk is actually more filling and nutritious than fruit/veg purees so if she is having too much fruit/veg and less milk that may be why she seems hungrier. The usual suggestion is to introduce one "meal" at a time, so you could do one week of food only at lunchtime, then the next week add breakfast, then the next week add tea.

Ellas can be a bit misleading I think because they are so sweet (because of the fruit) that babies tend to wolf them down - this may mean they are taking in more food than they are really ready for iyswim.

There is also a growth spurt at 6 months which may be why she's waking more for feeds.

So in summary: slow down the food a bit, keep going with the milk as normal, build up the food gradually.

Definitely keep giving her as much milk as she wants. She'll still be getting most of her nutrition from it until she's closer to a year old, I think. I gave my DD finger food from 6 months, and it took her a little bit to get the hang of eating. She had fun with it, though.

They say "food for fun until one"

I weaned my ebf DD at 6 months. Started with one meal and over the month moved to lunch and dinner. By 7.5 months she was on 3 meals. Sometimes wolfed it down. Sometimes hardly ate any. We made sure we put her under no pressure. If she ate, great, if she didn't, great.

At 6 months I breastfed first. Then some purée. By 7 months I switched and proper food first then breastfeed.

By 9 months she breastfeeds 4 times a day.
On wake up and then before naps and bed.
Still randomly feeds at night.
