Hi there, I am new to the site - and a man - with no children - so apologies if I am in the wrong place or shouldn't be posting here!!

I'm in a fairly new relationship with a woman I can honestly say I have fallen in love with (and it seems that the feeling is mutual). However, she has a five year old daughter, and we are now at the stage when I am going to be meeting her for the first time. I am a little nervous as i have never been around children before, and obviously want to make a good impression, both on the daughter, but also on my girlfriend.

My girlfriend has explained that the Dad has never been around, so her daughter has a tendency to get "attached" to men - that doesn't concern me as such, but having never been around children of that age, I'm beginning to get nervous about what to expect and how to act, etc.

Now, I know the common sense stuff like "be yourself" and "don't try to hard", but was wondering of there is anyone who can offer any further advice or ideas on what to do to make this easier on all of us.

Sorry if I am in the wrong place and should just "man up" or something, but I thought someone may have become a "step parent" may have some wisdom to share

Thank you in advance (or apologies!!)

Hello, I don't have any experience of this. There's a step-parenting section so if you post there you may find more people in the same boat.
