My 7 year old continues to prove health professionals wrong! :D

Hello everyone I would just like to share something amazing!

Buddy (my son ) is 7 years old has a wide range of disabilities and Mostly Non Verbal

Normally when my son wants something he would get very distressed / self harm because he struggles to communicate his need and wants, we have tried Comminciation cards, sign language etc ... However For the first time today he has copied me and signed BACK his first ever Sign ( our sign for drink) and then when he had finished with his drink instead of chucking it across the room he PLACED it on the floor and walked away! This may seem like something so small but it's huge, The " professionals" told us bascially he would never have the understanding to complete these " simple tasks'

ALSO ( I could cry!) Today when he was coming down stairs from a nap he actually WALKED down the stairs holding my hand! In a normal situation he would throw himself to the floor and try and go down on his belly, but NOT today! It took about 10 minutes to get down the stairs but with every step he took ... I cried and he BELLY CHUCKLED all the way down! ... He was so proud of himself and I am so proud of him! :D

To top it off he is currently banging our kitchen door ( he loves the sound) and saying " Da Da Da Da" as he plays... He called me Dada for the first time a few weeks ago and until today I have only heard it once... I am currently say listening to my son SAY MY NAME OVER AND OVER! :D

His health professionals from day one have said to me he would never understand simple instructions to complete simple tasks and therefore he would " need round the clock care for the rest of his life" ... I feel like today especially he is trying super hard to prove everyone wrong! :D

He sounds fabulous. I teach children with severe, complex and profound learning disabilities and they all continue to surprise us at any age.

He sounds like he's as proud of himself as you are of him!

That is amazing, a very proud parenting post. I am beaming for you.

We were told our DD, if she survived childhood, would be severely mentally and physically disabled. Today at 9yrs old she competed in a main stream swimming contest and came away with 2 gold medals. She also showed a few mums , dads and swim coaches that being in a wheelchair doesn't mean you can't achieve your dreams.

May your boy keep proving the experts wrong

This post is so full of joy and hope. It really helps me see the light at the end of the tunnel with regards to my 11 month old DD. Thank you.

Doctors seem to often under estimate our children but our children are strong and fighting every step of the way.
