This may be a strange request but could anyone tell me where I can read/watch about parenting in different countries and cultures? Im white British btw. Since having my baby I've become really interested in different parenting practices.

For example, I watched The Tribe on channel 4 which was a fly on the wall documentary about an Ethiopian tribal family. I noticed that the young kids seemed to run up to any female and breast feed which I thought was kind of cool. Parenting appeared to be much more of a shared task within the tribe. I was really frustrated that there wasn't an episode on parenting!

Someone also told me that in Vietnam (I think!) Babies are conditioned to only wee/poo when their mum's whistle.

I find all this stuff fascinating and would like to learn more! Are there any good books i should read or tell me about something specific to your culture!

It's a fascinating topic!

What a good thread, thank you! Going to buy a book and DVD that have been recommended.

Have you read the "Parenting Around The World" series on the blog A Cup Of Jo? It's fascinating.

There's a film called Babies that follows the first year of 4 different families from different countries. Here's a link www.imdb.com/title/tt1020938/
