Invites to birthday parties

I'm just wondering if I'm alone in this. ds age 5 (year 1) has been invited to 1 school friends party since he started school. He's been to other parties of
course of children of my friends.

It doesn't seem to concern him and his teacher says he has plenty of friends at school but my friends' children seem to go to loads.

The school is in a relatively low income area (working class ) with a big Asian and polish intake. My son is white British. I also work most of the week so only do a couple of pick ups so I don't know many mums.

I wonder why he isn't invited? Is it parties outside family are mainly for middle class kids as they do tend to cost a bit, is it because I don't know parents so they don't think of me when doing invites, is it something else? Is it DS didn't invite any school friends as his birthday is August and I wasn't organised to hand out invites before break up? Probably a bit of all of the above.

We haven't done play dates again because I work and do other things at weekends.

Anyone else have this admittedly not very important problem? I don't want DS to be an outcast because he has a rubbish mum!

Do you know if the children in his class are definitely having parties? I have taught at a number of schools. Some have had lots of whole class or large scale parties but some have very few. I think it depends on lots of factors. If he is not worried I wouldn't be either.

Funnily enough he was invited to party no. 2 of his school career today!

Also I decided to be pro-active and invited a friend via a note with Sid friend (have no idea who parents are) to play in the Easter holidays and was accepted!

Now I just have to convince DS a July party is better than an August one. I'm afraid everyone will be away and/or forget! He is not keen.

Do a September one instead. Then his gets to be one of the first party of the year.
