Expressing milk

Due to a traumatic birth my milk has only come in on day 5. I have a very lazy baby that knows how to breastfeed but falls asleep after the first few sucks ( we have tried stimulation to keep her awake).
At the moment we are using expressed milk and topping up with formula. Since my milk has come in only yesterday I have expressed 90ml over 2 feeds.
Woken up this morning (without expressing all night) and my boobs really ache. I'm currently strapped up to my cow pump to try to relieve the ache but is there anything else I can do?

Hi, it might be worth getting this moved to Infant Feeding, where it'll be seen more easily by those with lots of experience and expertise in breastfeeding :)

Of your breasts hurt try usind cold or warm compresses ( in my case hot water was better as it stimulates you milk let down) and feed the baby ad often as you can and change feeding positions, like rugby position, holding your baby under arms while feefind and massage at the same time if you're lumpy on sides. This are tips I got from a breastfeeding support lady and it did help. I heard cabbage leaves work wonders. It is normal to have some discomfort if you're breastfeeding for the first time for the first few weeks noe and again until you go in established bf though.

Hey, sorry to hear you had such a tough time. My dd was 8 weeks prem and I exclusively pumped for a year with her. You can hire a hospital grade pump from medela on a rolling month basis, which is a double pump that mimics feeding patterns. Use the discount code NICU30, they deliver the next day.I highly recommend double pumping as it stimulate milk supply and cuts down the horrible pumping by half ! Good luck

Sorry just re read your message. I had absolutely no discomfort using a double pump compared to when I used a single had pump. That was the point I was trying to make !

I have a single pump but will have a look at a double hospital one!
I have been managing to get full feeds out but not for every feed!
