Baby never seems happy!

Hello,

My little girl is 4 weeks old, she is quite a windy baby and the GP thinks she has reflux, she is having infant gaviscon and infacol for this.

My reason for posting is, she never seems to be happy! Where've she is awake she is crying and will not settle, she tends to cry so much she just exhausts herself. It's starting to get me really down, I feel really useless and like I'm the worse mother in the world. It's almost like my baby hates me!
Just really wanted to get this off my chest and see if anyone else's babies was like this and what they did?
Thanks for listening.

You are not the worst mother in the world. You are the mother of a 4 week old baby and it's bloody hard!! DS was a windy baby and has bad reflux, the first 6 weeks were horrendous and I felt very much the same as you, quite often I would sit and cry with him. It does get better! You have to remember that you're still adjusting to everything you've been through in the past month and your tiny baby doesn't really know what's going on, at the minute she exists to cry, eat and wonder why she isn't in that cosy womb she spent 9 months in. But it will get better!

Simply things that helped DS was switching to Dr Browns bottles (if you're not BF) and there was a really good YouTube video of a baby massage technique which helped with wind. I used to lay him on my knees on a cushion with his legs up against me and gently push his knees up towards his chest which seemed to calm him. We were also advised to put a rolled up towel under his mattress so he was sleeping at a slight incline to stop any acid burning his throat at night. Flowers
